🏫 SCHOOL LEVIES
Magic Valley voters will decide several school levies this November. Two-year requests include Twin Falls at 14-point-four million dollars; Jerome, three-point-five million; Buhl, two-point-five million; Gooding, one-point-eight million; and Hansen, 580-thousand. Camas County is asking for 450-thousand over two years for staffing and supplies, plus a separate 150-thousand for music. Valley is seeking one-point-five million over five years for school building repairs.
🩺 PROPOSITION ONE
Idaho doctors are weighing in on Proposition One. More than three hundred signed a letter supporting the reproductive health initiative, while fifty-nine signed a separate letter opposing it. The measure would protect abortion access before fetal viability, with medical emergency exceptions afterward. Voters decide November third.

⛪ CHURCH CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTIONS
Idaho Attorney General Raul Labrador says churches can give general-fund money to political campaigns without naming their regular donors. But his opinion says a contribution over a thousand dollars specifically supporting or opposing a candidate or ballot measure triggers disclosure requirements.

🔒 ARMED SCHOOL STAFF
Homedale and Marsing schools are exploring a program allowing trained staff to carry firearms, modeled after Kimberly’s program. Volunteers would undergo screening and firearms training. District leaders say the goal is to delay threats until police arrive. Final school board approval is still needed.
📚 BLISS READING GAINS
A southern Idaho school district saw reading proficiency double last school year. Bliss climbed from thirty-seven to seventy-four percent, with its principal crediting an online reading program. State officials caution that changes in testing procedures make comparisons harder.

🚑 MINIDOKA PEDIATRIC EMS
Emergency Response Ambulance-Minidoka is Idaho’s first EMS agency designated pediatric ready. That means crews have training and procedures in place to assess, treat and transport children in emergencies. The program includes all four ambulances and 28 EMTs, each trained for their level of care.
⚖️ DAYCARE VACCINATION LAWSUIT
A federal judge has dismissed a Boise daycare’s challenge to Idaho’s Medical Freedom Act, which bans daycares from requiring vaccinations or medical treatment. The judge rejected arguments that the law is too vague. The daycare and parents who sued are considering an appeal.

🚰 AIRPORT WELL PFAS
A drinking water sample at Magic Valley Regional Airport found PFAS chemicals above federal limits. The results apply to the airport’s well, not Twin Falls city water. Airport water users may consider bottled water or a certified PFAS filter.
☢️ NUCLEAR CAMPUS PROPOSAL
A proposed nuclear campus is raising concerns about waste coming to Idaho. Critics estimate the deal could bring more than thirty-thousand tons of spent nuclear fuel. Supporters point to jobs and investment. Governor Brad Little says storing waste above the Eastern Snake Plain Aquifer is a nonstarter.

💵 BOISE RENT INCREASES
Boise renters are paying more this fall. Zumper’s September report puts median rent for a two-bedroom apartment at sixteen-eighty a month, up nearly sixteen percent from last year. A one-bedroom runs fourteen-fifty. Boise ranks as the nation’s thirty-third most expensive rental market.

🔎 MICHAEL VAUGHAN CASE
Stacey Wondra asked a judge yesterday to dismiss murder and kidnapping charges in the disappearance of five-year-old Michael Vaughan from Fruitland. His defense says there’s insufficient evidence. Prosecutors disagree. Michael disappeared in July 2021, and his remains have never been found.

🏆 NONPROFIT FUNDRAISER
Rock, paper, scissors helped raise thirty-seven thousand dollars for nonprofits across southern Idaho. First Federal Bank’s tournaments drew sixty-four businesses in Twin Falls and Meridian. In the Magic Valley, St. Luke’s won eight-thousand-seven-hundred-fifty dollars for Valley House.

Got extra plastic grocery bags? Twin Falls Parks and Recreation can use them at dog waste stations. Drop off clean, undamaged bags in marked bins at City Hall’s first-floor lobby or the Parks and Recreation office. They’ll help keep local trails clean.

🥅 BOYS SOCCER RESULTS
Canyon Ridge celebrated senior night with a shutout in boys soccer, beating Madison four-nothing. Jonas Saka, Adrian Antonio and Wasumba Bolemo scored the Riverhawks’ first three goals as Canyon Ridge improved to seven-six-and-one. Elsewhere, Wood River edged Burley four-three, and Mountain Home played Capital to a scoreless tie.

On the girls’ side, Wood River shut out Burley seven-nothing, Twin Falls blanked Minico nine-nothing, and Jerome beat Canyon Ridge five-two.

Eight games are on today’s high school soccer schedule. On the boys’ side, all four matches start at four. Kimberly travels to Bliss, Declo visits Buhl, Twin Falls heads to Minico, and Gooding takes on Wendell. For the girls, unbeaten Kimberly puts its thirteen-and-oh record on the line at Bliss. Declo visits Buhl, and Gooding travels to Wendell, with all three starting at five forty-five. Then at six, Mountain Home hits the road to face Vallivue. All eight matchups are conference games.

It was a night of sweeps in Magic Valley volleyball. Minico beat Burley three sets to none. Twin Falls swept Jerome and Wood River took down Canyon Ridge in straight sets. Mountain Home picked up a set at Caldwell, but the Cougars won the match three sets to one.

Eight matches are on today’s high school volleyball schedule. At six-thirty, Declo hosts Marsh Valley, and Oakley travels to Grace for nonconference action. Camas County travels to Hansen, Glenns Ferry visits Murtaugh, and Valley brings its fourteen-and-one record to Shoshone. All six seven-o’clock matches are conference contests.

Make it two straight wins for CSI men’s rodeo. The Golden Eagles won in Logan, Utah, with Ruger Smith taking the all-around title. CSI’s women finished fifth. Both teams head to Price, Utah, this weekend for the USU-Eastern Rodeo.
🏅 SCENIC WEST HONORS
Two CSI athletes are picking up Scenic West honors. Juan Porto Pascual is soccer’s Offensive Player of the Week after his late goal secured a one-one draw with nationally ranked Snow College. And Kimberly’s Emerson Heatwole earned volleyball’s Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season, totaling thirty digs against USU-Eastern.

The Idaho Vandals are back from their bye week with a big test Friday, hosting top-ranked Montana State at the Kibbie Dome on ESPN. The Bobcats are the defending FCS national champions. Idaho looks to bounce back after two losses by a combined eight points. It’s also the Vandals’ annual Ag Appreciation game.

Boise State celebrates its undefeated 2006 football team Saturday as the Broncos host Utah State for homecoming and their Pac-12 opener. Kickoff is at five-thirty. Players, coaches and staff from the Fiesta Bowl championship team will return for the twentieth anniversary celebration. Fans are asked to stripe the stands in blue and orange.

Idaho State puts its unbeaten record on the line Saturday, hosting nineteenth-ranked Northern Arizona at six at the ICCU Dome.
