🔥 WILDFIRES | CREWS BATTLE MAJOR FIRES ACROSS REGION

Firefighters are battling 79 large wildfires nationwide, with more than 22,000 personnel assigned. Two hundred new fires were reported Saturday, including five new large fires.

Locally, the Big Grass Fire has burned more than 575,000 acres and is 93-percent contained. The North Heglar Fire is 73-percent contained with no new growth reported.

The Shale Butte Fire north of Kimama has burned about 1,500 acres. Crews hope to contain both the North Heglar and Shale Butte fires today.

🚔 ONTARIO DEATH | TWIN FALLS MAN DIES DURING POLICE RESPONSE

Oregon Police are investigating after a Twin Falls man died during a police response in Ontario Saturday night.

Authorities say 46-year-old Mark Alan Olson experienced medical issues after officers used pepper balls and a Taser. No firearms were used, and investigators say no gun was found.

Four officers have been placed on leave.

🚨 AMBER ALERT | MISSING IDAHO GIRL FOUND SAFE

An AMBER Alert for a missing 7-year-old Idaho girl has been canceled after she was found safe.

Idaho State Police issued an alert Saturday night for Izabella Bond, who authorities said was taken by Amber Farson. Farson was later arrested on a felony kidnapping charge.

🔫 RIGBY SHOOTING | MAN IN CUSTODY AFTER DEADLY SHOOTING

A man is in custody following a deadly shooting in Rigby yesterday afternoon.

Police say two men were involved in a dispute at a home on Ashlyn Way when one opened fire. The victim was shot in the doorway and pronounced dead at the scene.

🌊 SWAN FALLS DAM | SEARCH SHIFTS TO RECOVERY OPERATION

A search for a missing man at Swan Falls Dam has shifted to a recovery operation.

Ada County deputies say the man fell into the Snake River yesterday evening and did not resurface. Crews searched by foot, boat, drone and aircraft before suspending efforts overnight. The search is expected to resume today.

🏫 SCHOOL INSURANCE | TRUST SEEKS ADDITIONAL $13 MILLION

The Idaho School Benefit Trust says it needs another $13 million from participating schools to cover health insurance claims.

More than 100 districts, charters and education organizations must choose a payment plan by September 10, with payments beginning September 30. The trust reserves were exhausted by extremely high claims.

⚖️ ABORTION RULING | IDAHO CASE COULD REACH SUPREME COURT

A federal judge’s ruling expanding exceptions to Idaho’s abortion ban could have nationwide implications and potentially reach the U.S. Supreme Court.

Judge B. Lynn Winmill ruled the 14th Amendment protects abortion access when a pregnancy threatens a patient’s physical or mental health. Idaho Attorney General Raúl Labrador has appealed.

🚧 KIMBERLY ROAD | OVERNIGHT PAVING BEGINS TODAY

Overnight paving begins today on Kimberly Road in Twin Falls as the Idaho Transportation Department continues rebuilding and repaving U.S. 30 from Blue Lakes to Eastland.

Paving is expected to take about five days, with lane changes and delays. ITD will also upgrade signals at Blue Lakes and Kimberly Road, with the entire project expected to wrap up this fall.

🏈 HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL | WEEK ZERO RESULTS

High school football is officially back, with eight local teams hitting the field for Week Zero.

Declo opened with a 38-14 win over Filer, while Burley edged Ridgevue 20-19. Madison shut out Minico 52-nothing, Grace beat Murtaugh 36-26, and Twin Falls came up just short against Sandpoint, 36-34.

On Saturday, Logos defeated Wendell 39-6, while Fruitland topped Kimberly 42-21.

⚽ HIGH SCHOOL SOCCER | SOUTHERN IDAHO SEASON UNDERWAY

High school soccer is back across Southern Idaho, with boys and girls teams kicking off the 2026 season.

On the boys side, Minico rolled past Kimberly 8-nothing, led by a hat trick from Bryan Ruiz. Jerome shut out Nampa 5-nothing, and Burley beat Skyview 6-3. Twin Falls and Canyon Ridge both took losses.

For the girls, Canyon Ridge, Jerome, Twin Falls and Kimberly all picked up wins.

Boise State soccer suffered its first loss of the season last night, falling 2-0 at Texas Tech.

The loss snapped a program-record 17-match unbeaten streak for the Broncos, dating back to September of last year.

Boise State falls to 2-1-1 and returns home Sunday to host Idaho State at 1 p.m.

🏐 CSI VOLLEYBALL | GOLDEN EAGLES OPEN 4-0

The 18th-ranked CSI volleyball team capped an unbeaten opening weekend with a straight-set win over Western Nebraska.

Brynlee Bybee led the Golden Eagles with nine kills as CSI improved to 4-and-0.

Next up, CSI faces 19th-ranked New Mexico Junior College Friday morning in Salt Lake.

⚽ IDAHO STATE SOCCER | BENGALS EARN FIRST WIN

Idaho State women’s soccer picked up its first win of the season Sunday, shutting out Cal State Bakersfield 2-0.

Parker Sullivan scored her first collegiate goal, while Stephanie Roper added a goal and an assist.

The Bengals return home to host UNLV Thursday night.

⚽ IDAHO SOCCER | VANDALS SUFFER FIRST LOSS

Idaho women’s soccer suffered its first loss of the season Saturday, falling 2-0 to Hawaii.

The Vandals outshot Hawaii 17-7, including six shots on goal, but were held scoreless for the first time this season.

Idaho returns home Thursday to host CSU Bakersfield.

🏀 BOISE STATE BASKETBALL | BRONCOS ADD LAMAR WASHINGTON

Boise State men’s basketball has added veteran guard Lamar Washington.

The six-foot-four Washington joins the Broncos after stops at Texas Tech, Pacific and Georgia Tech. He averaged nearly 10 points and five assists last season for the Yellow Jackets.

Washington has played in 124 collegiate games and joins Boise State for the 2026-27 season.
