🚨 Crashes & Public Safety

  • Fatal Crash in Minidoka County: A Ram 2500 ran a stop sign and hit a Ford Ranger. The 55-year-old driver of the Ford died. Neither driver wore a seatbelt.
  • Holiday Weekend Collisions: Fatal wrecks near Jerome, Island Park, and Minidoka claimed at least two lives, including a child. Several others were hospitalized.
  • Standoff in American Falls: Billie Palmer, 58, fired two shots at a visitor and barricaded himself. He was arrested and faces felony assault charges.

🔥 Fires & Law Enforcement

  • Deadly Arson in Nettleton Gulch: A fire intentionally set to ambush firefighters killed two battalion chiefs and injured another. Suspect Wess Roley also died. Donations for victims’ families are now being accepted.
  • Manhunt Ongoing: U.S. Marshals seek Travis Decker, wanted for murder and kidnapping in Washington, last seen in Bear Creek, Sawtooth National Forest.

💰 Health & Policy

  • Medicaid Cuts Coming: ~75,000 Idahoans may lose health coverage due to the federal budget bill passed Thursday. It slashes Medicaid subsidies and adds work requirements. All Idaho GOP reps voted for it.

  • Modular Nuclear Plant Proposed: A 462-MW nuclear facility could be built near Jerome by 2028. Public hearings start July 21 at the courthouse.

🐻 Bear Sighting

  • A bear cub was seen in a Ketchum backyard. Officials say leave it alone and don’t leave food or trash out.
