Idaho State Police are investigating a fatal vehicle-pedestrian crash in Minidoka County. Troopers say a 30-year-old man from Spring Creek, Nevada, was struck and killed just after 12:20 Saturday morning near 300 West and Highway 24. The driver, a 32-year-old woman from Fairfield, was traveling eastbound when the collision occurred. The investigation is ongoing.
🚨 OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTING — SHOSHONE COUNTY
Law enforcement shot and killed a 77-year-old man after reports of an active shooter at the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office Friday afternoon. Sheriff’s officials say the suspect, identified as John Drake, had shot two women and wounded a deputy before being neutralized during a standoff. Authorities say no inmates were involved, and outside agencies are now investigating the incident.

🚆 FATAL TRAIN CRASH — NEAR SANDPOINT
Idaho State Police are investigating a fatal crash involving a pickup and a train north of Sandpoint. Troopers say a 63-year-old man struck a moving train just after 2 p.m. yesterday and was killed at the scene. The roadway was blocked for about four hours while crews cleared the scene.
🚗 WINTER CRASH — I-15 IN BONNEVILLE COUNTY
Idaho State Police are investigating a crash on Interstate 15 in Bonneville County after a vehicle lost control on snow-covered roads and crossed the median. A 54-year-old woman from Twin Falls was taken to the hospital, while the other driver was not injured. Southbound lanes were closed for about 90 minutes. Police urge drivers to slow down in winter conditions.

🏆 STATE CHAMPIONS — MAGIC VALLEY
Several Magic Valley teams are celebrating state championships this year.
Carey capped off another dominant football season with a state title — their ninth in school history — and the reigning champs return most of their roster next year.
🏀 BASKETBALL TITLES
In basketball, the Wendell Trojans knocked off conference rival Declo to win the 3A boys state championship, while the Dietrich Blue Devils claimed the 1A boys title — their first since 2016.
🏃 TRACK & FIELD — KIMBERLY DOMINANCE
On the track, the Kimberly Bulldogs girls team won the 4A state championship at Middleton, piling up 110 points. Karlie Bair swept the 100 and 200, Isabella Burnett won the 400, and Reagan Stephenson took the javelin.
⛳ STATE GOLF SWEEP
Kimberly also swept the state golf championships for the third time in four years. The boys shot 639, with Wyatt Williams winning his second straight individual title. The girls team shot 726 with two Bulldogs tied for second.
In 3A boys golf, Declo took the state title, and Twin Falls girls’ golf also finished on top — led by Gracee Payne’s individual championship.
🏈 BOISE STATE — TRANSFER PORTAL
Boise State defensive back Ty Benefield has entered the NCAA transfer portal after two standout seasons with the Broncos. Benefield led the team in tackles in both 2024 and 2025, earned All-Mountain West First Team honors, and was named Defensive MVP of the conference title game this season. He finishes his Boise State career with 233 tackles and six interceptions, and is expected to draw strong interest as a veteran defensive back.
🏀 IDAHO STATE MEN’S BASKETBALL
Idaho State men’s basketball opens Big Sky play at home this week, hosting Sacramento State Thursday night at 7 and Portland State Saturday at 4 inside Reed Gym. The Bengals enter conference action with the league’s top NCAA NET ranking at 126, coming off a strong non-conference season. Idaho State looks to turn that momentum into an early push in Big Sky play in front of the home crowd.
