Your Daily Briefing – 12/02/2025

⛽ GAS PRICES

Gas prices nationwide are sliding, with the national average hitting $3 a gallon for the first time since 2021. More than two dozen states are already below that mark. But here in Idaho, drivers aren’t seeing the same relief — the state average sits at $3.23, down slightly from last week and last month, but still 18 cents higher than a year ago.

❄️ WINTER WEATHER & SAFETY

Winter weather has arrived across Southern Idaho, bringing slick roads and unpredictable conditions. Idaho State Police urge drivers to slow down, avoid distractions, and increase following distance. ITD reminds motorists to carry an emergency kit and stay in their vehicle if stranded. A free winter driving safety course will be held Dec. 15 at the ISP office in Jerome.

🚨 CRIME & COURTS

A Hazelton man has pleaded guilty to assaulting two U.S. park rangers after ramming his pickup into their vehicle during a May traffic stop in Utah’s Glen Canyon. Gregory Farley will be sentenced on February 11 in St. George.

🌨️ SNOWPACK UPDATE

The latest snowpack numbers are in for Southern Idaho:

  • Little Wood & Big Lost: 101% of median
  • Big Wood & Little Lost: 86%
  • Snake River basins: 96% above Palisades → 91% above American Falls
  • Henrys Fork & Teton: 75%
  • Salmon Falls: 81%

🇺🇸 VETERANS & RECOVERY EFFORTS

Idaho Senator Mike Crapo has reintroduced the bipartisan Bring Our Heroes Home Act, aiming to streamline the recovery of missing U.S. servicemembers. The initiative follows the recent return of the remains of WWII Idahoan Charles Atteberry. The act would centralize military records, require federal agencies to release information, and create an independent review board. Supporters say it will help bring closure to families of the more than 80,000 Americans still unaccounted for.

🚧 SNOWPLOW SAFETY

Idaho has already seen its first snowplow-related crash of the season. Twin Falls County deputies say a plow was struck early Sunday on Highway 93. Drivers are urged to slow down, stay at least 200 feet behind plows, avoid passing on the right, and keep headlights on, especially in blowing snow.

🏞️ SHOSHONE FALLS ROAD REPAIRS

Twin Falls is nearly finished with emergency repairs to the new Shoshone Falls Park Road after flooding from Dierkes Lake washed it out this fall. Crews have replaced an old pipe and laid new asphalt. The city says the park is expected to reopen soon.
