🗞️ #MagicValleyNews Roundup – Friday Edition

The City of Twin Falls is warning residents about a scam targeting people who recently applied for city permits. A resident received a fake invoice demanding payment to an unverified account. Officials emphasize the city will never email invoices from unofficial addresses or demand immediate payment.

🚨 Canyon Ridge “Swatting” Hoax
A false report of a gun at Canyon Ridge High School triggered a lockdown Wednesday morning. Police confirmed the call was a hoax—part of a growing “swatting” trend where fake emergencies draw large law enforcement responses. Twin Falls Police warn that swatting wastes resources and can lead to felony charges and federal investigations.

🛫 Qatari Troops to Train in Idaho
Top Idaho officials say they were blindsided by U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s announcement of a deal allowing Qatari troops to train with F-15 aircraft at Mountain Home Air Force Base. Governor Brad Little and Senator Jim Risch confirmed they weren’t notified beforehand but stressed Qatar will not build a separate base in Idaho.

🚔 Cassia County Man Wanted
The Cassia County Sheriff’s Office is searching for 30-year-old Daniel Jeremy Ferris, wanted for trafficking over 25 pounds of marijuana and possession with intent to deliver. His bond is set at $250,000. Anyone with information should call 208-878-2251.

🗳️ Confusing Ballots for School Levies
Some Magic Valley school districts say new election ballots are confusing voters about the real costs of levies and bonds. A 2024 state law now requires ballots to show the highest possible tax rate—without accounting for state relief funds that reduce the actual cost. Districts call the change “misleading.”

🏥 Clinic Closure in Gooding
Associates in Family Practice in Gooding saw its last patients yesterday and will close permanently October 31. Patients can request medical records in person until then, or electronically afterward.

🇺🇸 TSA Video Sparks Controversy
A Department of Homeland Security video playing at TSA checkpoints is drawing backlash for partisan content. The video blames Democrats in Congress for the government shutdown, and several airports have refused to air it. Idaho Senator Melissa Wintrow called it “shocking” and a misuse of taxpayer money.
