🚨 CANYON RIDGE LOCKDOWN

Canyon Ridge High School was placed on lockdown late yesterday morning after a caller claimed to have a gun inside the school. Police quickly searched the building and confirmed there was no threat.

🩺 IDAHO DOCTOR SHORTAGE

Idaho will spend $10.6 million this year to help students attend medical school — yet the state still ranks last in the nation for doctors per capita. A new law adds 10 subsidized seats a year for three years, but lawmakers say no single program can fix Idaho’s growing shortage, so they’re pursuing an “all-of-the-above” approach.

🏫 FILER SCHOOL LEVIES ON BALLOT

Filer School District voters will see two levies on the November ballot:

a new Plant Facilities Levy for building maintenance, and
a renewed Supplemental Levy for staff, supplies, and activities.
Superintendent Kelli Schroeder says both are essential to keep schools running smoothly and facilities in good condition.

⚖️ HIGHWAY 93 FATAL CRASH CASE

A 27-year-old man charged in a deadly Highway 93 crash appeared in court Tuesday. Jonathan Villagomez faces multiple charges, including vehicular manslaughter and aggravated DUI, after a July 3 crash that killed Jessica Inga, 41, and her infant daughter. He pleaded not guilty.

☀️ IDAHO POWER & SOLAR RATES

Idaho Power has lowered reimbursement rates for customers with rooftop solar and other on-site generation. The new rates, approved by state regulators, took effect October 1 and affect about 14,000 customers who installed systems after 2020.

🪖 QATARI TRAINING FACILITY DEBATE

A new training facility for Qatari troops at Mountain Home AFB is drawing mixed reactions. U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced the plan Friday, but Idaho officials — including Governor Brad Little and Senator Jim Risch — have yet to comment on the deal.

🌍 IDAHO-UK TRADE MISSION

Governor Brad Little led Idaho’s first official trade mission to the United Kingdom, following the Trump Administration’s state visit. The delegation focused on agriculture, tech, and energy — with new opportunities for beef, dairy, and processed potatoes in UK markets.

🏐 VOLLEYBALL DISTRICTS

The Minico Spartans swept Mountain Home for the third time this season, advancing in the district tournament.
Jerome edged Burley 3-2 in a five-set thriller (17-15 final). Next: Jerome faces top-seed Wood River, Minico meets Twin Falls in Monday’s semifinals — a trip to state on the line.

⚽ GIRLS’ SOCCER DISTRICTS

The Twin Falls Bruins stayed perfect, rolling past Wood River 4-0 to claim the district championship and punch their ticket to state (17-0-1). Addisen Kohring led with a goal and two assists.
Jerome blanked Mountain Home 4-0 to stay alive and will rematch Wood River Thursday for a state play-in berth — the winner faces McCall-Donnelly this weekend.

🏀 VANDALS VS BRONCOS — THE RIVALRY RETURNS

For the first time in 11 years, the Idaho Vandals and Boise State Broncos meet again on the basketball court — Friday 7 p.m. MT at Idaho Central Arena, Boise. The Vandals return 60% of their roster; the Broncos bring back nearly half from last year’s 26-win season.

🎣 KING HILL ACCESS CLOSURE

The King Hill fishing and boating access site will be closed Oct 20 – Dec 19 for parking-area upgrades. Improvements include regrading, resurfacing, new striping, and better vehicle access. Funded by U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service grants and Idaho license sales.

⚖️ TRANSGENDER ATHLETICS CASE

The five-year legal fight over Idaho’s transgender athletics ban continues. A federal judge ruled the case will proceed in state court while the U.S. Supreme Court considers review. Lindsay Hecox, a Boise State student, sought to withdraw, but Judge David Nye said the state and public deserve a final ruling. AG Raúl Labrador praised the decision.
