Robert Lange has been charged with second-degree murder of Alejandro Paredes-Hurtado who was beaten and left on an Idaho Falls Street last Saturday. In court the judge raised Lange’s bond from $100,000 to $150,000.  Allegedly the victim was punching a car window. When the suspect told him to stop, he allegedly came toward him.

A trial to determine whether Idaho’s abortion law should be blocked for individuals facing pregnancy complications will begin on Nov. 12 in Boise.  The judge will hear both sides of a lawsuit filed in September 2023 on behalf of four Idaho women denied abortions despite facing serious pregnancy complications. 

Idaho’s top lawmakers made a stop locally yesterday as the City of Jerome officially became the Capital for a Day.  Every month Idaho Governor Brad Little gathers his cabinet and visits a rural community to become the “Capital for a Day”.  The monthly meetings give Idahoans a chance to voice their concerns and ask questions about matters impacting their daily lives directly to the lawmakers making those decisions at the statehouse.

Walleye are spreading at an alarming rate upstream in the Snake and Salmon Rivers and now occupy critical rearing and migratory areas of juvenile salmon and steelhead. Idaho Fish and Game are asking anglers to harvest any walleye they catch in Idaho salmon and steelhead rivers and report the location and size of the fish to help Fish and Game better understand how this species is spreading.  In 2023, anglers reported catching 19 walleyes in the Snake and Salmon rivers and so far in 2024, we have received over 60.

Two people were sent to prison on Meth and Fentanyl drug distribution charges in Boise.  Chief U.S. district judge David Nye sentenced 51-year-old Daniel Gonzales to 10 years in Prison and 57-year-old Charles McReynolds to 9 years.  Over two pounds of meth, three quarters of a pound of fentanyl and over 10-thousand dollars were located during the arrest. 

Today is the deadline to request an absentee ballot in Idaho.  Registered voters can request an absentee ballot, find early voting locations, and view sample ballots at VoteIdaho.com.

SPORTS

Boise State volleyball won a hard-fought match last night in Bronco Gym, rallying past San Diego State in the fifth set to take the win.  Trailing 12-9 in the fifth set, Boise State rallied with a 4-1 run tying it at 13-13. Boise State will travel to Las Vegas for a match with the UNLV Rebels at 2 p.m. tomorrow in Cox Pavilion.

Boise State women’s soccer defeated Nevada 2-0 last night after an explosive second half.  The Broncos will return to Boise to host the last home match of the season, facing UNLV on Sunday, Oct. 27 at 1 p.m.

Idaho vandal volleyball fell at home to Northern Arizona, last night at Memorial Gym. Up next, the Vandals round out a four-match homestand when they welcome Northern Colorado tomorrow at 1 p.m.

The Idaho women’s basketball hosts Lewis-Clark State tonight in an exhibition game, the first public exhibition game of the season for the Vandals. The game is scheduled to tip off at 6 p.m.

In Pocatello, the men’s basketball exhibition game between Montana Western and Idaho State has been canceled due to scheduling conflicts in the program.  It was scheduled for next Tuesday. 

The CSI Men’s Soccer club let one slip away as they fell 4-3 to USU-Eastern in their penultimate game of their inaugural season yesterday. The team now shifts their focus to tomorrow, when they take on 17th- ranked Snow College in the final regular season game. 

The Southern Idaho Women’s soccer club didn’t get off to the start they were looking for in their final week of the regular season as they fell to USU-Eastern 2-1 yesterday. The Golden Eagles will finish off their inaugural season tomorrow, as they square off with 5th-ranked Snow College. 

From the local soccer fields, for boy’s state tournament games, Rocky Mountain downed Canyon Ridge 5 to 0.  Wood River said no to Moscow 2 to 0.  Vallivue defeated Twin Falls 1 to 0 and Wendell took the win from Weiser 5 to 3. 

For the Girl’s Pocatello defeated Twin Falls 2 to 0.  It was Buhl 1 the Sun Valley Community School 0.  Lewiston took the win over Wood River 5 to 0. 

In district Volleyball games, Declo defeated Soda Springs 3 to 0.  Twin Falls downed Wood River 3 to 0.  Valley outlasted the Sun Valley Community School 3 to 2.  Richfield defeated Hansen 3 to 0. 

On the schedule for today, first for High School Football, Notus travels to play Valley, Hansen heads to Castleford, Canyon Ridge heads to Columbia, Buhl heads to Filer, Kimberly to Gooding, Wood River visits Jerome, Burley to Mountain Home, Hagerman to Raft River, Dietrich to Shoshone, Minico visits Twin Falls, and Declo heads to Wendell.

In state tournament games for Soccer, first for the boys, Wendell plays McCall Donnelly in Post Falls.  Wood River and Blackfoot meet at Bonneville.  Twin Falls and Century will play.  Weiser and the Sun Valley Community School play.  Canyon Ridge and Thunder Ridge will play in Coeur d’Alene.

For the Girls, Buhl and Fruitland will play in Post Falls. The sun Valley Community School and CDA Charter will play.  Twin Falls takes on Wood River.
