📸 FLOCK CAMERA SEARCHES
Twin Falls Police say outside agencies searched the city’s Flock license plate camera network at least 631 times for immigration-related purposes this spring. Police say those searches conflicted with local restrictions. The department has since disabled national network sharing, preventing outside agencies from accessing Twin Falls data.
🚔 IN-N-OUT SHOOTING: OFF-DUTY TROOPER IDENTIFIED
Idaho State Police has identified the off-duty trooper who responded during the August 1st In-N-Out shooting in Twin Falls as Specialist Steve McClain. McClain, a 12-year ISP veteran, confronted the active threat. ISP says his actions, along with those of other citizens and first responders, undoubtedly helped save lives.
🔫 ARMED CITIZENS AND ACTIVE SHOOTER RESPONSE
The armed citizens who confronted the August 1st Twin Falls shooter are being praised, but experts caution against the new “Idaho Shoots Back” mentality. Police say armed bystanders can create confusion for responding officers and recommend escaping when possible and engaging a shooter only as a last resort.
🔥 FIRE WEATHER WATCH
A Fire Weather Watch is in effect this afternoon through early tomorrow across parts of southern Idaho. Scattered thunderstorms could bring abundant lightning and erratic wind gusts up to 40 miles per hour, increasing the risk of new wildfires.
💰 TWIN FALLS COUNTY PILT FUNDING
Twin Falls County will receive more than 2.2 million dollars in federal PILT funding, helping offset taxes the county can’t collect on nearly 638-thousand acres of federally owned land. Most of the money will support law enforcement.
🏥 HEALTH INSURANCE DISPUTE
Idaho lawmakers are taking a closer look at health insurance practices following a contract dispute that left Pocatello’s Portneuf Medical Center out of Regence’s network. Officials say meeting the hospital’s requested rates could have raised premiums for 65-thousand state health plan members by seven percent.
📞 ELMORE COUNTY JAIL SCAM
The Elmore County Sheriff’s Office is warning families about a new jail-related scam. Callers claim an illness is spreading in the detention center and demand bond money to release an inmate. Officials say they’ll never pressure families to pay. Contact police if you get such a call.

🏈 SOUTHERN IDAHO FOOTBALL COACHING CHANGES
High school football is back, and several Southern Idaho programs have new leaders this season. Hagerman turns to Jacob Hicks, replacing his father Bill after four seasons and three playoff appearances. Shoshone brings back longtime coach Mark Sant, while Valley promotes former Hansen coach Jim Rife. Castleford has Buhl native Jamie Allen taking over, and Glenns Ferry hands the program to former Pilots standout Dustin Johnson.
🏈 DECLO HORNETS
Declo football enters 2026 with some big shoes to fill after losing nine seniors, including seven who earned postseason honors. Head coach Rhett Jones says plenty of returning talent is ready to step up. Twins Dane and Dacx Garrard return to lead a physical Hornets defense, while Dane and Dawson Darrington anchor the running game. Declo expects to stick with its trademark smash-mouth football, but with a strong quarterback and big receivers, the Hornets could open up the passing game as well.
🏈 SOUTHERN IDAHO RECEIVERS TO WATCH
Southern Idaho has some big-time receiving talent to watch this high school football season. Kimberly senior Joe Barrett returns after hauling in 66 passes for more than 1,100 yards and 14 touchdowns last year. The speedy receiver is headed to Air Force next season. Century tight end Xen Fleischmann has also signed with Air Force. The 6-foot-5, 235-pound senior follows a family tradition of Division One football and will be a major target for Century this fall.
🏟️ BOISE STATE CHAIR BACK POLICY
Boise State is making changes to its chair back policy at Albertsons Stadium this football season. Fans can bring foldable seats or cushions, but they must be no wider than 18 inches and cannot have metal frames or pockets. Boise State says the changes will speed up security, improve safety and keep fans from encroaching on neighboring seats. Non-compliant chair backs can be checked for free outside the stadium. Season-long chairback rentals are also available for 90 dollars.
🏛️ COLLEGE ATHLETE PAYMENT RULES
Congress is expected to tackle new rules for paying college athletes when lawmakers return from recess. The bipartisan Protect College Sports Act would give the NCAA and conferences more authority over athlete payments and require greater reporting. Supporters say soaring football and basketball costs could threaten funding for women’s and Olympic sports. The proposal would also tighten transfer rules, allowing athletes one transfer before potentially losing a year of eligibility.
⚽ IDAHO STATE WOMEN’S SOCCER
Idaho State women’s soccer opens the regular season tomorrow afternoon in Pocatello, hosting Snow College at Davis Field. The Bengals are coming off a 5-to-1 exhibition loss at BYU, where Saydree Cooke scored Idaho State’s lone goal. Cooke and Daphne Egelhoff will serve as team captains this season. Kickoff tomorrow is set for 2 p.m., marking the first official regular-season meeting between Idaho State and Snow College.
⚽ IDAHO WOMEN’S SOCCER
Idaho women’s soccer opens the 2026 season tonight on the road against Washington State. It’ll be a familiar matchup for the Vandals, as new Cougars head coach Chris Citowicki brought 10 former Montana players with him to Pullman. Idaho faced many of them in last year’s Big Sky Tournament semifinals. The Vandals enter the season picked second in the Big Sky preseason poll. Kickoff tonight in Pullman is set for 6 p.m.
