🚨 JEROME COUNTY MOTORCYCLE CRASH
Idaho State Police are investigating a pickup versus motorcycle crash in Jerome County Saturday afternoon. A 57-year-old Jerome man on a Harley-Davidson suffered critical injuries and was airlifted to the hospital. He was not wearing a helmet.
🎒 BACK TO SCHOOL ACROSS SOUTHERN IDAHO
Back-to-school season is getting underway across Southern Idaho. Buhl students return Thursday with Valley and Hansen following Friday. Twin Falls, Filer, Gooding and Minidoka County head back August 19th, while Jerome starts August 20th. Kimberly also returns August 20th.
💧 RIRIE DAM OUTFLOW INCREASES
The Bureau of Reclamation says outflow from Ririe Dam increases today to 325 cubic feet per second, sending water toward American Falls Reservoir. Current storage is tight—American Falls is just 16% full, Palisades 22%, and Jackson Lake 52%. Flows below Milner Dam are projected to stop August 17th.
🔥 WILDFIRE RESOURCES STRETCHED NATIONWIDE
Wildfire activity remains high nationwide, with 183 new fires reported in just one day, including eight new large fires. The National Interagency Fire Center says crews are currently battling 94 large wildfires, with more than 30,000 firefighters and support personnel, nearly 1,900 engines and more than 200 helicopters deployed.
Idaho officials are warning that firefighting resources are stretched thin as wildfires burn across the West. More than 600 fires have already been reported in Idaho this year.
🔥 BIG GRASS FIRE / TARTAR FIRE
Evacuations are underway in Owyhee County as the massive Big Grass Fire grows beyond 513,000 acres. Some areas are under Level 3 “GO” orders, with the fire just 39 percent contained. More than 1,200 personnel are battling the blaze. Meanwhile, the Tartar Fire near Weiser is now 87 percent contained after burning about 158,000 acres.
🔥 INTERMOUNTAIN GAS SEEKS RATE CUT
Intermountain Gas customers could see lower bills this fall. The company is asking Idaho regulators to approve a rate adjustment that would cut the average residential bill by about $1.46 a month, or just over 3 percent. If approved, the new rates would take effect October 1st.
💰 POWERBALL JACKPOT HITS $905 MILLION
The Powerball jackpot has climbed to an estimated $905 million for tonight’s drawing after no one hit the jackpot Saturday. The jackpot hasn’t been won since May 2nd, when winners in Florida and Texas split $20 million.

🏈 SOUTHERN IDAHO HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL
The 2026 high school football season officially kicks off today across Southern Idaho. Carey is chasing a third straight 1A state championship, while Raft River and Oakley could contend in a wide-open 2A. Buhl makes the move down to 3A, and Kimberly faces a brutal early schedule in 4A. In 5A, defending conference champion Twin Falls and Minico are expected to battle for the title, with Jerome a potential dark horse.
🏀 CSI MEN ADD CARTER DAVIS
The College of Southern Idaho men’s basketball team has added six-foot-six guard and forward Carter Davis from Smithfield, Utah. Davis joins the Golden Eagles after completing a two-year mission in Warsaw, Poland. At Skyview High School, he was a 2023 Utah 4A state champion and State Tournament MVP, while also earning Region Defensive Player of the Year. Davis averaged 14 points and more than two steals per game as a senior and says CSI fans can expect a passionate player who leads by example.
⚽ CSI WOMEN’S SOCCER PRESEASON
The College of Southern Idaho women’s soccer team has wrapped up its first week of preseason, with depth and conditioning a major focus. Head coach Andrew Zaleski says the Golden Eagles are hungry and competitive, with goals of winning the conference and making the playoffs. CSI has also adopted a new mentality centered on playing courageous and aggressive soccer. The Golden Eagles get their first test August 15th at home, hosting the College of Idaho in a preseason scrimmage.
⚽ CSI MEN’S SOCCER EYES POSTSEASON
The College of Southern Idaho men’s soccer team is back for its third season, with the Golden Eagles setting their sights on the postseason. After missing last year’s playoffs by just three points, head coach Alex Ferreira says CSI proved it can compete. The team returns three captains, with players saying making the playoffs is the bare minimum and winning the conference is the ultimate goal. CSI opens with a scrimmage at Carroll College August 15th.
⚽ IDAHO STATE FALLS TO BYU IN EXHIBITION
Idaho State women’s soccer got its first preseason test Saturday, falling 5-1 to BYU in an exhibition in Provo. After allowing three goals in the opening 11 minutes, the Bengals settled in and played BYU much tighter the rest of the way. Saydree Cooke scored Idaho State’s lone goal, assisted by Kellie Christensen and Stephanie Roper. Twenty Bengals saw action as ISU tested its depth ahead of the regular season.
🎓⚽ BOISE STATE SOCCER EARNS ACADEMIC HONOR
Boise State soccer has earned the United Soccer Coaches College Team Academic Award after posting a 3.67 team GPA, the program’s highest in more than 13 years. It’s Boise State’s 10th academic team award and first since 2019. The Broncos open the season Wednesday at home against CSUN, with kickoff at 7 p.m. at Boas Soccer Complex.
