⚖️ Legislative Task Force Finds COVID Response Violated Rights

A new Idaho legislative task force says the state violated citizens’ constitutional rights during the early weeks of the COVID-19 pandemic — citing church closures, business shutdowns, and quarantine orders. Lawmakers stopped short of recommending penalties, but agreed the state overstepped when creating an advisory group to spend federal relief funds.

🌲 Prescribed Burns Underway Across Idaho

Cooler weather means prescribed burns are underway across Idaho to reduce wildfire risk and restore forest health. The U.S. Forest Service says projects are burning in the Sawtooth and Caribou-Targhee National Forests, with more planned through fall as conditions allow.

👩‍⚖️ Magistrate Judge Candidates in Twin Falls County

The Magistrates Commission will interview two candidates for the new Twin Falls County magistrate judge position on October 10th at the County West Judicial Annex. Applicants are Patricia Migliuri of Buhl and Tyler Rands of Twin Falls. The public is welcome to attend the interviews.

A public hearing on the future of the Ford Idaho Center takes place tonight at 6 p.m. in Nampa. Residents can attend in person or submit written comments online or by email to clerks@cityofnampa.us.

🔥 Fire Prevention Week Kicks Off

It’s Fire Prevention Week, reminding everyone to stay safe from the nation’s most common disaster — home fires. The American Red Cross urges families to test smoke alarms and practice fire escape plans. Volunteers will be in Twin Falls on October 11th, installing free smoke alarms in local homes.

🗳️ Brad Wills to Seek Reelection as Twin Falls County Assessor

Twin Falls County Assessor Brad Wills has announced he’ll seek reelection in 2026. Wills, who’s served since 2017, says he’s proud of improving efficiency and fairness in property assessments. A Twin Falls native, Wills says he plans to continue serving residents with “stability and vision.”

🏇 Jae Foundation Expands Youth Programs

The Jae Foundation is expanding its youth programs in the Magic Valley with plans for a new Boot-Check Sports Ranch just outside Twin Falls. The 26-acre facility will feature sports courts, equine experiences, and youth programs.

🏆 High School Football Wrap-Up

It’s the final month of regular-season football, and 23 area teams hit the field this week!

  • 5A: Canyon Ridge cruised past Burley 35–6, while Twin Falls powered through Pocatello 44–14. Minico and Jerome both battled Friday night, each looking for that momentum win.
  • 4A: Wood River topped Caldwell 19–7, Kimberly rolled over Filer 50–6, and Buhl outlasted Gooding 39–29.
  • 2A: Glenns Ferry edged Valley 26–20 in overtime, while Hagerman shut out Murtaugh 46–0 behind a monster game from Casen Knight — 234 yards and four touchdowns! Raft River took on Wendell, and Oakley had the bye.
  • 1A: Shoshone handled Richfield 32–12, with Hadley Hunt rushing for 227 yards and two scores. Castleford outgunned Camas County 60–58, and Carey stayed perfect at 6–0 with a 54-point performance against Rockland.

Boys’ Soccer

Jerome closed out the regular season with a big win over Burley, 7–4, improving to 7–3–3 on the year. Sun Valley Community School edged Gooding 3–2 in a tight conference matchup, while Canyon Ridge and Madison battled in Twin Falls. Twin Falls also hit the road to Minico to wrap up their conference slate. The district tournament kicks off Thursday!

Girls’ Soccer

Jerome dominated Burley 4–0, finishing 7–6–2, while Canyon Ridge pulled out a close one over Madison, 2–1. The district tournament also starts Thursday for the girls, as teams fight for their shot at the state bracket!

🐎 Boise State Football

Boise State wrapped up nonconference play with a tough 28–7 loss to No. 21 Notre Dame. The Broncos totaled 315 yards of offense but gave up four turnovers in the setback. Maddux Madsen scored Boise State’s lone touchdown on a 1-yard keeper, while Ty Benefield led the defense with eight tackles. The Broncos now turn their focus to conference play — hosting New Mexico this Saturday night at Albertsons Stadium.

🦅 College of Southern Idaho Soccer

Both CSI soccer teams came up big against Truckee Meadows Saturday!

  • Men: A 4–0 shutout win — Ali Kanza struck first, Edward Hill added two goals in the second half, and Jakob Hollon sealed it late. Goalkeeper Robert Foster was perfect in net.
  • Women: CSI took a 3–1 victory, with Jael Montalvo scoring once and assisting twice, while Presley Houghton and Jayva Hicks added goals. Both teams hit the road next week to face Pacific Northwest Christian and North Idaho.

🏐 CSI Volleyball

The 13th-ranked CSI volleyball team battled hard but fell to #6 Salt Lake in straight sets Saturday, dropping their first conference match of the season. Isabel Smart led with eight kills, while Dalayni Brindley tallied 24 assists. CSI, now 13–6, hits the road next week to face USU Eastern and Snow College.

🏈 Idaho State and Vandals Recap

It was a mixed weekend for Idaho state athletics! The Vandals women’s soccer team battled Montana to a scoreless draw Sunday in the Kibbie Dome — their eighth shutout of the season, matching last year’s total. Goalkeeper Paula Flores continues to shine, now tied for second in the nation for shutouts.
Meanwhile, in football, Idaho State nearly shocked No. 4 Montana, falling 42–38 in a thriller at the Dome. Quarterback Jordan Cooke threw for 421 yards and two touchdowns, while the Bengal defense tallied three sacks and nine tackles for loss.
