Local Sports 5/10/24


In local district high school softball games from the diamonds yesterday, the Kimberly Bulldogs claimed back to back SCIC district titles taking the win over Gooding 9 to 5.  Kimberly will now advance to the state tournament.  Gooding will play in a state play-in game on Saturday in Burley. 



Elsewhere Burley defeated Jerome 7 to 4.  The Bobcats will play Wood River today at 4:00. The winner advances to the state tournament.  Meanwhile Jerome was eliminated.

In Baseball, Mountain Home downed Wood River 10 to  5.  The Tigers will play Twin Falls today at 4:30 for a spot in the state tournament while Wood River is eliminated.



Yesterday the College of Southern Idaho Baseball Team led top seeded Southern Nevada early and headed into the bottom of the sixth tied but the Coyotes scored two more in the bottom of the sixth to beat CSI 5-3 Thursday in the Region 18 Tournament.   The Golden Eagles gave up only three earned runs in the game. CSI will now take on the loser of Salt Lake CC and USUE today in a loser-out game.



Boise State rallied past Fresno State 5-4 before suffering a 9-1 defeat to San Diego State, Thursday in the Mountain West Softball Championship.  The fifth-seeded Broncos won an eight-inning thriller over the fourth-seeded Bulldogs in an elimination game for their 14th come-from-behind win of the season. Boise State plays UNLV in an elimination game at 3 p.m. today. If the Broncos advance, they will play either Nevada or San Diego State at 6 p.m.



The Idaho State Bengals wrapped up the multi-events portion of the 2024 Big Sky Track and Field Championships Thursday afternoon in Bozeman, Montana. Two Bengals scored team points for the teams with Josie Settle finishing 5th in the heptathlon with 4731 points and Adam Jones coming in sixth in the decathlon with a score of 5194. Idaho State kicks off the general track and field events today as the day starts with the men's javelin throw and the women's hammer throw.
