Five years ago, Twin Falls resident Maryann Steiner died in a car crash at the intersection of Heyburn and Blue Lakes in Twin Falls.  This week, the driver of the car that hit the victim was sentenced to prison for second degree murder.  Cedrick Mitchell was sentenced to life in prison.  He must serve 30 years before he is eligible for parole.



While a Blaine County Deputy was conducting a traffic stop along Highway 75 this week, a car pulled alongside the deputy’s vehicle and stopped.  The officer determined that the driver, 35 year old Sandro Antonio Miraval Pinedo was driving under the influence.  The driver had a previous excessive DUI conviction from 2022 making his second arrest in five years a felony. 



Transportation Security Administration officials in Idaho are encouraging residents near the Friedman Memorial Airport to join their agency.  They are currently hiring security screening officers to work at the airport.  You must be 18 years old and have a high school diploma and be a U.S. citizen.



Bryan Kohberger, the suspect in the Moscow college student homicides, has now been jailed in Idaho for 470 days following his December 2022 arrest. The amount of money spent on the high-profile murder case already exceeds $3.6 million. The cost of Kohberger’s prosecution is heightened; financial studies have shown because the state plans to pursue the death penalty if a jury convicts him.



Gas prices have hit the $4 mark in the Boise area and it looks like that price is headed for Magic Valley.  Idaho’s average price is currently at $3.93 for regular, a 9% increase from a year ago.  Utah, which supplies most of the Gem State’s finished gasoline, is about 7.5% higher than last year at $3.97 per gallon. 



The city of Twin Falls is hoping you will consider being a civic reporter.  They have launched a new reporting tool that gives residents the ability to report issues directly to the city by a mobile device or desktop computer.  The tool promises to expedite work requests and is available 24 hours a day.  Go to the city’s website for more information.
