Some of the biggest changes during the recent 2024 legislative session involved how the Idaho Legislature’s powerful budget committee sets the state budget. JFAC broke state agency budgets into two different pieces. A version of last year’s budget with the one-time spending money and new spending requests taken out but only partial placeholder salary increases for state employees factored in was put forward as a bare bones budget intended simply to keep the lights on.
Idaho State Police are investigating a two-vehicle fatality crash that occurred on Saturday afternoon near the Idaho-Utah border. At around 2:30 a 64-year-old female with a 66-year-old male passenger, both from Fruit Heights, Utah were traveling northbound on US91. A 2009 Yamaha motorcycle, ridden by a 60-year-old male from Preston was driving northbound when it struck the BMW as it was slowing to turn. Police say the rider of the Yamaha succumbed to his injuries on scene.
The Chad Daybell murder trial continues today. Last week several images showing the crime scene were displayed in the courtroom but the Judge ruled they wouldn’t be made visible to the public. The 55 year old Daybell could be sentenced to death in the killing of two of his current wife’s children and his ex-wife.
Two adults and two minors from Nampa have died after their car was hit by a train near Notus. Authorities said the crash happened Saturday morning just after 8, in Canyon County near US-20, milepost 17. The pickup was traveling on a private road that intersects a railroad crossing. The driver didn't yield and was hit by the train.
The Magic Valley Metropolitan Planning Organization hopes to hear from you on its plans for the next year. The organization was formed in December 2023 to guide transportation planning in the Magic Valley. The group’s Draft Unified Planning Work Program will be available for public comment until May 16.
