The city of Twin Falls is looking to fill the city attorney’s position.  Current city Attorney Fritz Wonderlich announced his decision to retire as of September 30^th. 

25 year old Jacob Anderson of Hailey is being held in the Blaine County jail charged with felony rape.  The Sheriff’s office said his charges stem from an alleged sexual relationship with a 15 year old.  During his arrest deputies found a glass pipe with burnt residue in his pocket. 

 The Blaine County sheriff’s office has identified the victim of the house fire in Bellevue.  That fire claimed 75 year old Earnest Patrick Barker.  74 year old Irene Faye Barker was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.  The home was completely destroyed last Friday afternoon.

36 year old Eric Hamblin of Burley has been charged with child sex crimes after police accused him of having sexual contact with a now 16 year old girl.  The girl told authorities Hamblin touched her on numerous occasions. 

Minidoka county district Judge Jonathan Brody denied a request to free a Paul man who was sentenced to life in prison for kidnapping and raping a woman in 1984.  74 year old Melvin Dean Hanks claimed he was only supposed to serve 30 years in prison and that he has done the time.

Lawyers are asking a U.S. judge to issue a preliminary injunction blocking a new Idaho law requiring doctors to report extensive personal information to the state about women who have had abortions.  The law, which took effect July 1, requires health care providers to disclose information about patients who had one of several "complications" listed in the law.

An Idaho judge now says state prison officials can hold off on identifying where they obtain the drugs used in executions until a trial is held on the matter. Fourth District Judge Lynn Norton ruled in May that the state had to turn over nearly all of its execution records, including those identifying the source of the execution drugs, to a University of Idaho professor who sued under the Idaho Public Records Act. Norton modified her decision Monday.

Born on this day was Helen Carter, American country music singer. The eldest daughter of Maybelle Carter, she performed with her mother and her younger sisters, June Carter and Anita Carter, as a member of Mother Maybelle and the Carter Sisters, a pioneering all female country/folk music group. The group was also known as The Carter Family. She died on June 2nd 1998 aged 70.

Patsy Cline married contractor Gerald Cline. The couple divorced on July 4, 1957, the dissolution of the marriage was blamed on their considerable age difference and on the conflict between her desire to sing professionally and his desire that she adopt the conventional role of a housewife.

The Jimmy Dean Show aired for the first time on ABC-TV. An hour-long weekly series, the variety program featured country performers such as Charlie Rich, Roger Miller, Eddy Arnold, Connie Smith, Buck Owens, Jim Reeves, Red Buttons, and Johnny Cash. The Jimmy Dean Show, also gave puppeteer Jim Henson his first national media exposure, best known as the creator of The Muppets.

Born on this day in Monticello, Georgia, was Trisha Yearwood, country music artist. Best known for her ballads about vulnerable young women from a female perspective. She scored the 1997 song "How Do I Live", which was initially released on the soundtrack of the film, Con Air.

1973

Country rock singer, songwriter, 26-year-old Gram Parsons, formerly of The Byrds and The Flying Burrito Brothers, died under mysterious conditions in Joshua Tree, California. His death was attributed to heart failure but later was officially announced as a drug overdose. His coffin was stolen by two of his associates, manager Phil Kaufman and Michael Martin, a former roadie for The Byrds, and was taken to Cap Rock in the California desert, where it was set alight, in accordance to Parson's wishes. The two were later arrested by police.

1987

The third Farm Aid benefit concert took place at the Memorial Stadium, Lincoln, Nebraska. Held to raise money for family farmers in the US, the concerts were organized by Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp and Neil Young. Skeeter Davis died aged 72. She was one of the first women to achieve major stardom in the country music field as a solo vocalist, and was an acknowledged influence on Tammy Wynette and Dolly Parton.

Twin Falls County Commissioners have reversed a decision by the County’s Planning and Zoning commission that earlier had denied a request to build two potato cellars on 38 acres of farmland in an agricultural zone south of Chobani and Clif Bar.  The Twin Falls Highway district has said the trucks can only haul the spuds during daylight hours.  A company spokesman that doesn’t permit full use of the land that state law allows.

37 year old Bryan Thieme who has been accused of sexually abusing drunk teenagers will face a jury trial in January.  He pled not guilty yesterday to two counts of sexual battery of a minor child and dispensing alcohol to minors. 

27 year old Arcenio Sosa-Solorio has plead guilty to one count of Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.  He was accused of shooting at an undercover Idaho State police sergeant in the Twin Falls Walmart Parking lot.  It happened while police were conducting a drug bust.  He faces up to 20 years in prison.

Authorities are investigating an accident that involved two children who were walking in a cross walk near Filer and Polk street in Twin Falls around 7:48 a.m. yesterday. The children were six and eight years old according to reports.  The driver was cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian. 

The rare closure of most of the Columbia River to salmon fishing is largely the result of bad weather and bad ocean conditions in 2015. The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife on Thursday closed salmon fishing on the main stem of the Columbia River from Buoy 10 upstream to Highway 395 in Pasco Washington.

Wildland firefighters are still the heart and soul of the battle against raging blazes, but a technology boom is playing an increasing role in efforts to snuff out flames. Officials say today's firefighter’s count on accurate data from satellites and heat-sensing instruments to chart the size, location and direction of a fire. One device uses two satellites that detect active fire and burned areas.

Two of the top staffers for Idaho Democratic gubernatorial candidate Paulette Jordan have resigned with less than two months left before the Nov. 6 election.  Campaign manager Michael Rosenow and communications director Lisa Newcomb have both resigned.

Born on this day in Louisville, Mississippi, was Carl Jackson, country and bluegrass musician who played in Glen Campbell's band for 12 years. Jackson's first Grammy was awarded in 1992 for his duet album with John Starling titled Spring Training. In 2003 Jackson produced the Grammy Award-winning CD titled Livin', Lovin', Losin': Songs of the Louvin Brothers - a tribute to Ira and Charlie Louvin. He also recorded one of the songs on the CD, a collection of duets featuring such artists as James Taylor, Alison Krauss, Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, Emmylou Harris, and others.

Willie Nelson and several of his band members were charged with misdemeanor drug possession in Louisiana after state police had pulled Nelson's tour bus over for a routine commercial inspection. Smelling a suspicious odor inside, police searched the bus and found marijuana and psychedelic mushrooms.

Dwight Yoakam released the album 3 Pears. By the end of 2012, the album was named on annual best of lists by NPR, Rolling Stone, American Songwriter, AOL's The Boot, Entertainment Weekly, The Village Voice, and Rhapsody, and has been included in more critic's "best of 2012" lists than any other artist in the country genre.

An investigation by the Twin Falls and the Idaho fire marshal’s offices into the fire that destroyed Guppies Hot Rod Grill on Main Avenue has been concluded with officials not sure what caused the fire.  The fire started near a washer and dryer.  The fire was not arson officials say.

Three people were injured after a car failed to stop at a stop sign in Twin Falls County.  The car ran into another vehicle that was stopped.  The impact caused one of the cars to crash into a home near Kimberly.  One vehicle rolled ejecting a passenger.

The marketing organization for commercial potato growers in the United States says potato exports fell in all categories in July compared to the same month a year ago.  Potato USA says trade wars dragged down the exports, with frozen potato exports dropping by 3 percent in volume and 2 percent in value for July 2918 compared to July 2017.

The University of Idaho and U.S. Forest Service's Boise National Forest say they've identified human remains from Native Americans in their holdings that will be turned over to present-day tribes. The University of Idaho has portions of the left and right pelvis of a female, and the upper arm bone of a male removed from a small cave in southwestern Montana in 1929.

One person is dead and a woman injured after a Friday morning house fire south of Bellevue.  The fire was called in shortly after 6 a.m. by a person driving by.  Damage to the house is severe, officials say.

A 31-year-old woman has pleaded guilty to two counts of felony injury to a child following a car fire that killed one of her children and injured another. Jennifer Miller pleaded guilty in 4th District Court.

A man living in a home built for his daughter after she survived one of the most horrific crimes has been ordered to move out. A judge ruled Steve Groene is an unlawful tenant in the Coeur D'Alene house owned by a charitable trust set up to benefit his daughter. A home was built for then 8-year-old Shasta Groene after she was rescued from a kidnapper who had killed several members of her family.

In local sports, from the Jerome Volleyball Tournament, The Twin Falls Volleyball team had a 5-0 win Saturday.  They outlasted Buhl, Mountain Home, and Rigby. 

In girls soccer it was Twin Falls over Minico 12 to 0 and it was the Community School 10 Buhl 0. 

In Boys Soccer it was Twin Falls 12, Minico 1, Canyon Ridge 7 Pocatello 0, and no score in the Wood River Century game.

The College of Southern Idaho Volleyball team had a great weekend with a four set victory over Hillsborough community college on Friday and two dominant wins on Saturday beating Wallace State in Four Sets.  They won the Monroe college tournament in New York with 3 to 0.

In Football on Friday, Wendell barely made it past Payette in Overtime 29-28.  Minico out lasted Canyon Ridge 45 to 8.  Twin Falls 53 Wood River 13.  Kimberly 48 Burley 28, Gooding 38 to Snake River 14.  Elsewhere it was Valley 48 North Gem 6, Murtaugh 65 to Castleford 12.  It was Dietrich 38 Mackay 28, Lighthouse Christian 46 Clark Watersprings 16 and it was Mountain Home 28 Jerome 20.  Camas County outlasted Hagerman 32 to 28, Rimrock 50 Shoshone 12, Homedale 56 Filer 14 and Carey 64 Hansen 12.

1923

Born on this day in Mount Olive, Alabama, was Hank Williams (born Hiram King Williams). The American singer-songwriter and musician is regarded as one of the most important country music artists of all time. Williams recorded 35 singles (five released posthumously) that would place in the Top 10 of the Billboard Country & Western Best Sellers chart, including 11 that ranked #1. During his last years Williams's consumption of alcohol, morphine and painkillers severely compromised his professional life. Williams died aged 29 on January 1, 1953.

1952

Born on this day was American musician, singer and songwriter Steve Sanders. He was best known as being the replacement for William Lee Golden, the baritone in The Oak Ridge Boys. He died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head on June 10th 1998.

1959

Johnny Cash made his first appearance on UK television when he appeared on Boy Meets Girl. Cash appeared solo, as his backing group the Tennessee Two who, under UK Musicicans Union rules, were not allowed to accompany Cash.

1971

Lynn Anderson was at #1 on the country music album chart with You're My Man, Anderson's fourth studio album. The record was a #1 hit on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart for seven weeks, Anderson's third (and to date, last) #1 on the chart. Produced by Anderson's husband Glenn Sutton, the title song was Anderson's second #1 record.

1972

Faron Young who has international success with "It's Four in the Morning" - was charged with assault for spanking a girl in the audience at a concert in Clarksburg, West Virginia after claiming she spat on him. Young appeared before a Wood County, West Virginia justice of the peace and was fined $24, plus $11 in court costs. It was the first in a string of incidents involving Young, whose increasingly bizarre behavior would begin overshadowing his success.

1977

Reba McEntire made her Grand Ole Opry debut. She almost did not make it in the door after a guard at the Opry gate missed her name on the night's list of performers. Her parents and older sister, Alice, drove 1,400 miles round trip from their Oklahoma home to see what turned out to be Reba's three-minute performance that night.

1979

Born on this day, was Stephen Cochran American Country music singer and songwriter. In 2009 Stephen was named as a spokesman for the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Research and Development. The VA and Cochran collaborated to produce a music video for Veterans who need help.

Marvin Rainwater died aged 88. The American country and rockabilly singer and songwriter had several hits during the late 1950s, including "Gonna Find Me a Bluebird."

2014

Country music star George Hamilton IV died in Nashville, Tennessee at the age of 77. The singer and guitarist, who began performing as a teenager in the 1950s, had suffered a major heart attack a few days earlier. After an early foray into pop, Hamilton became a country stalwart, scoring 40 hits in the 1960s and 70s. He was inducted into Nashville's Grand Old Opry in 1960 and continued to work until shortly before he was taken ill.

An emergency levy in the amount of 93-thousand dollars has been approved by the Kimberly School Board.  The board said the money was needed because of the additional students registered in the district.  The district superintendent said they chose not to go for the full amount of $200-thousand dollars.

Jerome police are looking for a 28 year old woman who was last seen September 6^th.  Ashley Dawn Goodro is described as 5-foot 4 inches tall and weighing 180 pounds.  She also goes by the name of Ashley Sellers.  Call the police if you can help with the investigation.

Yellowstone park managers are worried that changing climate in northwest Wyoming is already impacting the national park's key natural resources.  The new report from park rangers says average temperatures in the area are higher than usual, resulting a variety of changes to the ecosystem.  The warmer temperatures are also negatively impacting wildlife.

A U.S. judge has delayed for two more weeks the first grizzly bear hunts to be held in the Lower 48 states in almost three decades. Thursday's ruling by U.S. District Judge Dana Christensen leaves the fate of about 700 bruins in the Northern Rockies in limbo as he considers whether federal protections for the animals should be restored. Christensen already delayed the hunts in Wyoming and Idaho once, with an order that came two days before hunting was set to begin on Sept. 1.

Fire ripped through an entertainment venue in Boise, leaving about 60 percent of the building damaged by flames and water. Boise fire officials say the fire at the concert venue called the Knitting Factory in the downtown area was reported at about 5 p.m. Tuesday. Three people were treated for smoke inhalation at the scene.

Gov. Butch Otter's budget office says Idahoans may have to come up with more money to pay their 2018 taxes next year due to major changes tied to the new tax law.  According to the Division of Financial Management on Monday, the state's tax revenue has faced a shortfall for the past two months due to individual income tax revenue failing to meet estimated forecasts.  Millions of American workers started getting fatter paychecks early this year, as employers withheld less money in anticipation of lower income taxes under the law.

He died on September 20, 2006.

Tulsa honored American Western swing fiddler Johnnie Lee Wills with a street named after him. Johnnie Lee Wills Lane is directly in front of the Expo Square Pavilion at the Tulsa State Fairgrounds. Wills, who died in 1984 was the younger brother of Bob Wills and had also played banjo with Bob as a member of the Texas Playboys.

Alan Jackson and Jimmy Buffett were at #1 on the Billboard country singles chart with the Jim "Moose" Brown and Don Rollins penned song, "It's Five O'Clock Somewhere". The song spent a total of eight weeks at the top of the chart and won the Country Music Association (CMA) Award for Vocal Event of the Year.

Property from the estate of Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash raised $1.24 million on the first day of a three-day auction at Sotheby's in New York City. Items sold included a custom-made abalone-inlaid acoustic guitar for $131,200 and an autographed photo of Elvis Presely to June Cash sold for $18,000, a striped prisoner's jacket from Folsom Prison made $6,000.

Born on this day in Maynardville, Tennessee, was Roy Acuff, who became synonymous with the Grand Ole Opry following his 1938 debut. In 1962, he became the first living inductee into the Country Music Hall of Fame. Acuff is often credited with moving the genre from its early string band and "hoedown" format to the star singer-based format that helped make it internationally successful. He died in Nashville on November 23, 1992 of congestive heart failure.

Johnny Cash Sings Hank Williams was released in the US, the singer, songwriters seventh studio. Contrary to what the title might suggest, only the first four out of the twelve tracks on the album were written by Williams himself, with most of the others being versions of Cash's self-penned songs.

Glen Campbell was at #1 on the US Country album chart with Rhinestone Cowboy, the singer, guitarists 30th album. Campbell had heard the song (written by Larry Weiss) on the radio during a tour of Australia and once back in the US decided to record a version.

Born on this day was Andy Gibson American country music singer. He co-wrote "Don't You Wanna Stay", a duet between Jason Aldean and Kelly Clarkson which reached #1 on the country music charts in 2011.

Miranda Lambert signed with Epic Records. She gained fame as a finalist on the 2003 season of Nashville Star, where she finished in third place and made her debut with the release of "Me and Charlie Talking", the first single from her 2005 debut album Kerosene.

Garth Brooks' song, "More Than a Memory" became the first song to debut at #1 on the Billboard magazine Hot Country Songs chart, since the start of the magazine's all encompassing country chart in 1958. It was released as his 51st single and first single from his 2007 compilation The Ultimate Hits.

In 1978 and 1979, Newton charted the singles "Last Exit for Love", "Lock, Stock & Barrel" and "Julie (Do I Ever Cross Your Mind?)". He later became a songwriter for other artists, with his credits including Razzy Bailey's #1 single "Midnight Hauler".

Born on this day in Darby, Florida, was David Bellamy, singer, songwriter of The Bellamy Brothers. The duo had success in the 1970s and 1980s, starting with the release of their crossover hit "Let Your Love Flow" in 1976, a #1 single on the Billboard Hot 100. Starting in the late 1970s, the Bellamy Brothers found success in country music as well, charting twenty #1 singles.

Johnny Cash was at #1 on the Billboard country singles chart with "A Boy Named Sue". The song tells the tale of a young man's quest for revenge on a father who abandoned him at 3 years of age and whose only contribution to his entire life was naming him Sue, commonly a feminine name, which results in the young man suffering from ridicule and harassment by everyone he meets in his travels.

John Denver was at #1 on the US country album chart with Back Home Again. The multi-platinum album contained the hit singles "Annie's Song" (#1 pop, #1 adult contemporary), "Back Home Again" (#5 pop, #1 AC, #1 country), and "Sweet Surrender" (#13 pop, #1 AC). In addition, the studio version of "Thank God I'm a Country Boy" appeared on this album.

Sheb Wooley the singer, songwriter and actor best known for his 1958 novelty song "Purple People Eater" died in Nashville, Tennessee. He played Ben Miller, brother of Frank Miller in the film High Noon, Travis Cobb in The Outlaw Josey Wales, and also had a co-starring role as scout Pete Nolan in the television program Rawhide.

A total of 30 artists gather to record "Forever Country", a single released in honor of the 50th annual Country Music Association awards. The track featured Brad Paisley, Keith Urban, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Little Big Town, Luke Bryan, Miranda Lambert, Blake Shelton, George Strait, Charley Pride, Trisha Yearwood, Lady Antebellum, Darius Rucker and others. The song debuted at #1 the week of October 8, the third song to do so since its inception in 2012.

Cleanup work has resumed at an eastern Idaho nuclear site months after the rupture of several barrels containing radioactive sludge.  Fluor Idaho, which manages the Idaho Cleanup Project, said in a statement that its workers have started again to exhume buried Cold War weapons waste at the Accelerated Retrieval Project VIII facility west of Idaho Falls.

Idaho anglers and hunters not only have to contend with elusive fish and wildlife, now even their licenses and tags are vanishing. The Idaho Department of Fish and Game says some licenses and tags have fading print and are turning into blank pieces of paper.

Opponents of grizzly bear hunts in Wyoming and Idaho have asked a judge to delay hunting for another two weeks while he considers if federal protections for the animals should be restored.  U.S. District Judge Dana Christensen last month put on hold for two weeks the first grizzly bear hunts to be scheduled in the Lower 48 states in decades.  That order expires Thursday.

The future of the Bumpin Bernies bar and dance club will once again come up for public debate as the Planning and Zoning Commission decides whether to revoke its special use permit.  The commission on Tuesday voted unanimously to initiate the process of revoking the permit that allows Bumpin Bernie’s to operate until 3 a.m. on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. City staff says they are violating its permit because it has been opening past its permitted hours on Thursday nights.

The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office says a dead hiker was likely killed by a cougar, marking the first verified fatal attack by a wild cougar in Oregon. The body of the hiker, 55-year-old Diana Bober, was found Monday in the Mount Hood National Forest in Welches. She had been missing since Aug. 29 and her car was found parked several miles away at the Zigzag Mountain Ranger Station.

Idaho Governor Butch Otter declared September 16 to be “Idaho Vintage Motor Car Day” in recognition of the 73rd Revival AAA Glidden Tour, to be held September 16-21 in Twin Falls.  Nearly 100 pre-World War II vehicles will take part, making the Tour one of the largest gatherings of vintage automobiles in the country.

Waylon Jennings was at #1 on the US country album chart with Are You Ready for the Country. Its title track is a song from Neil Young's seminal 1972 album Harvest. Despite the title, this outlaw country album featured covers of rock songs, including "Can't You See" by the Marshall Tucker Band. MacArthur Park (Revisited)" and won Waylon his first Grammy Award in 1969.

Banjo player Earl Scruggs was honored at Turner Field in Atlanta as part of the pre-game show for an Atlanta Braves home game. Organizers set a world record for the most banjo players (239) playing one tune together, playing Scruggs' "Foggy Mountain Breakdown".

2009

Taylor Swift became the first country music artist to win an MTV Music Video award at the 2009 event, winning a Best Female Video for "You Belong with Me." Hip-hop artist and producer Kanye West interrupted Swift's acceptance speech, saying that another video should have won. This resulted in a media stir for several days; eventually, West apologizes — first on his blog, and then by personally contacting Swift.

One person was injured when a Tour Bus collided with a semi-truck near Hagerman in Twin Falls County.  ISP says the bus driver was using a turnout in the road to turn the vehicle around when a semi struck the vehicle.  The truck driver was taken to the hospital for treatment.  Highway 30 was blocked for about 5 hours yesterday morning. 

Twin Falls Police say 28 year old Gustavo Ceron-Maciel was taken into custody yesterday morning after he lost control of his vehicle in front of Lincoln Elementary school.  A female pedestrian was taken to the hospital after being struck.  The driver left the scene of the accident with minor injuries.

Some on the Twin Falls city council wants to continue giving to nonprofits but want to ensure that money will be used to further the city’s mission.  Since 2003 the city has given grants that total more than 1-point 5 million dollars to 21 organizations.

The Twin Falls School district says they need an emergency 2-point 5 million dollar levy.  Monday the board approved the levy that they described as taxpayer money but will not come before voters.  This after the district saw a 522 student increase in average daily attendance. 

The city of Twin Falls said they are going to ask the Idaho Transportation Department to reroute highway 30 that goes through downtown.  Instead of second avenues the road would run from Washington Street, Sixth avenue west and Minidoka Avenue. 

Idaho officials say a U.S. District Court judge made a legal error and should reverse his ruling that Idaho violated the U.S. Constitution by forcing several landowners to sell their natural gas and oil to a Texas company. The Idaho attorney general's office in documents filed Monday says Chief U.S. District Court Judge B. Lynn Winmill "was clearly erroneous" in a ruling last month that could have significant ramifications for Idaho's oil and gas industry.

An investigation revealed that a truck driver who authorities say caused a crash that killed him and three Idaho airmen had more than 20 traffic violations in several states. Illya Tsar was driving a tractor-trailer east on Interstate 84 on June 16 when he slammed into the back of a Jeep that was stopped in traffic.

Born on this day in Saratoga, Texas, was George Jones the country music singer who has scored more than 150 hits during his career, both as a solo artist and in duets with other artists. Jones who married Tammy Wynette in 1969, and has had 15 US #1 country hits, is celebrated by some of his fans as the hard-drinkin', fast-livin' spiritual-son of his idol, Hank Williams. Jones missed so many engagements that he gained the nickname of "No-Show Jones." Jones died on 26th April 2013 aged 81.

The Farm Aid 99' benefit concert took place at the Nissan Pavilion, Bristow, Virginia. Johnny Cash, US singer songwriter died of respiratory failure aged 71. Widely considered one of the most influential American musicians of the 20th century, he was known as The Man in Black. Cash traditionally started all his concerts by saying, "Hello, I'm Johnny Cash." His best-known songs included "I Walk the Line", "Folsom Prison Blues", "Ring of Fire", "Get Rhythm" and "Man in Black." Cash also had his own US TV show in late 60's - early 70's.

Dixie Chicks: Shut Up and Sing documentary film produced and directed by Barbara Kopple and Cecilia Peck (daughter of actor Gregory Peck) had its world premier at the Toronto International Film Festival. The film followed the Dixie Chicks over a three-year period of intense public scrutiny, fan backlash, physical threats, and pressure from both corporate and conservative political elements in the United States after lead singer Natalie Maines publicly criticised then President of the United States George W. Bush during a live 2003 concert in London, England.
