An Idaho man whose photograph was included on a federal list of those considered “persons of interest” in the Jan. 6 siege of the U.S. Capitol has been jailed in Boise.  34-year-old Josiah Colt is being held on a U.S. Marshal’s hold. Five people died in the violence. Colt later apologized for his conduct.

Here’s the deal.   Colleges in Idaho will extend Idaho’s tuition freeze for a second year IF lawmakers approve Governor Brad Little’s higher education budget.  Little said the state needs to approve restoring a 15-point 4 million  dollar cut from higher education this year and increase funding by an additional 8 point 2 million dollars for the budget year that begins July 1st.

Idaho senators have joined their House colleagues in introducing legislation seeking to take power from Republican Gov. Brad Little on emergency declarations like the one dealing with the coronavirus pandemic.  Four pieces of Senate legislation, just like the House bills brought forward, aim to increase the authority of the part-time Legislature while limiting the governor’s power. Public hearings on the legislation are expected in the Senate State Affairs Committee in the coming weeks.

School staff and teachers are some of those next in line for the COVID 19 vaccine.  Idaho Governor Brad Little made the announcement this week.  The announcement surprised the state’s district health departments saying they are adjusting to the governor’s announcement.

Kristopher Wrede a 30 year old Boise man will now spend the next year in federal prison.  Wrede was sentenced for making false bomb threats over the phone last year.  He told a Suicide prevention hotline staffer there was a bomb at the United States courthouse in Boise.

Environmentalists have filed a notice of intent to sue the U.S government to block plans to build up to 11,000 miles of fuel breaks they claim would violate the Endangered Species Act in a misguided effort to slow the advance of wildfires in six Western states.  Leaders of four conservation groups say the BLM project would be shielded from legitimate environmental review under last-minute moves by the outgoing Trump administration.
