The South Central Public Health District said residents should check ground beef products packaged between July 26th and September 7 for possible salmonella contamination.  57 people from 16 states have already been infected with the disease – 1 from Idaho.  Products are labeled with EST 267 inside the USDA mark of Inspection.

33 year old Joshua Molina may face the death penalty after the death of a baby last year in Twin Falls.  The Jerome man has been charged with the murder of his girlfriend’s baby.  The court has pushed the deadline to decide to October 26th.

There’s a sea of orange at the Jerome High school today.  The school asked students to wear orange in support of Ana Lopez-Rodriguez, a student who was diagnosed with leukemia just as school got started this year.  The student Government will also be walking around the school for donations.

Bumpin Bernie’s, a bar located in Downtown Twin Falls may have to close the same hours as similar establishments.  They have been operating till 3 am but Police document a history of high call volumes for fights and disturbances.  Now, city officials are considering forcing them to close at 1 am. 

The former office building that until recently was used by the Twin Falls building department could be sold and repurposed as a Dance and exercise studio upstairs and a paleontology research lab in the basement.  A purchase agreement is headed to the council later this month for final approval.  Final price - $120-thousand dollars.

A longtime Republican Idaho lawmaker who lost to a political newcomer in May's primary is among six candidates mounting write-in campaigns. Rep. Tom Loertscher of Iona filed paperwork with the Idaho Secretary of State's office Tuesday to run as an independent in eastern Idaho's District 32 in the November general election.

Two northern Idaho newspaper carriers say they were shot at while delivering papers. Donna Correll and her husband said that someone shot at their vehicle while they were driving on their usual paper route outside of Lapwai. The couple was not hurt in the incident.

In local sports, first to boys soccer, the Canyon Ridge Riverhawks  is going to state with a 2 to 1 victory over Wood River.  Elsewhere it was Century 2 Twin Falls 1.  Jerome 6 Burley 0 and Preston took Mountain Home in Overtime 3 to 2. 

In Girls Soccer, The Twin Falls High School Soccer  Team is going to state with a 2 to 0 win over Wood River.   It was Dietrich 3 Murtaugh 2.  Burley 3 Preston 0.  Wood River beat Canyon Ridge 3 to 1.  Twin Falls Outlasted Mountain Home 3 to 0.  Gooding 3 Buhl 0.  Filer over Lighthouse Christian 3 to 0.  Wendell outlasted Raft River 3 to 2 and it was Hagerman 3 Richfield 0.  Oakley 3 Glenns Ferry 0 and Hansen beat Castleford 3 to 1.  Twin Falls Christian Academy 3 over Jackpot 0.

Born on this day in Seminole, Texas, was Tanya Tucker, female country music artist who had her first hit, "Delta Dawn", in 1972 at the age of 13 and hit songs such as 1973's "What's Your Mama's Name?", "Blood Red and Goin' Down," 1975's "Lizzie and the Rainman," and 1988's "Strong Enough to Bend". Tucker starred in her own reality show, Tuckerville, on The Learning Channel in 2005. It ran for two seasons for a total of 18 episodes.


Merle Haggard was at #1 on the country music album chart with The Fightin' Side of Me. The title track (like the song "Okie from Muskogee") became a success and gave Haggard a #1 hit single.
