Traffic along I-84 between Hazelton and Burley was backed up for over 6 hours Saturday morning around 11 when a semi-truck crashed and ended up in the Northside canal.  A 64 year old Kuna man was killed.  The westbound truck was completely submerged.  Currently the frontage road and the right lane of the freeway is closed while repair work to the bridge is made.

The BLM reports the Wedge Fire fully contained as of 10 am yesterday.  The fire, burning near Timmerman hill south of Bellevue destroyed about 7,375 acres.  No structures were damaged and officials say it probably started from a spark by a vehicle dragging something on the side of state highway 75 Saturday afternoon.

The Ada County Critical Incident Task Force is investigating a police shooting involving a 41-year-old man from Star.  Police were called to Idaho 16, south of Floating Feather Road around 5:30 PM Thursday.  Around 6 PM, Officers heard a gunshot and saw a man fall to the ground.  The injured man then began waving the gun.  That’s when a Star Police officer fired at him.  Authorities were able to get him to a nearby hospital at 7 PM. He died at 9 PM.

Link Up Idaho, in coordination with the Idaho Office of Broadband and the Idaho The Broadband Advisory Board has introduce Broadband 101, a statewide initiative aimed at bringing high-speed internet access to every corner of Idaho.

Voters in Bonner County decided to recall two school board members.  They decided to end the four-year terms of school board trustees Keith Rutledge and Susan Brown.  The remaining board members have 90 days to appoint 2 new members.  The community decided that Brown and Rutledge did not uphold their oaths to improve West Bonner school district.

The University of Idaho is postponing the demolition of the off-campus house where four students were murdered in November 2022. The College had planned to have the house demolished before the start of the fall semester. In July the school rescheduled the demolition for October but has since said they are instead focusing on building a memorial garden.

SPORTS

In Idaho college football The UCF knights defeated the Boise State Bronco’s 18 to 16.  The Idaho Vandals took the win over Nevada’s Wolf Pack 33 to 6.  Puget Sound outlasted Lewis Clark 20 to 6.

The No. 16 College of Southern Idaho volleyball team swept Western Wyoming Community College at the CSI Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon for its sixth straight win.  The Golden Eagles concluded the Starr Corporation Invite with a 3-0 mark and outscored opponents 9-1.

In girls soccer games, Twin Falls outlasted Minico 5 to 0.  For the boys Twin Falls outlasted Minico 4 to 1.  It was Burley 2 Preston 0.  Canyon ridge took the win over Wood River 6 to 2. 

In volleyball, Gooding swept Filer in two sets to win the Jerome Invite on Saturday. The invite also included Jerome, Lighthouse Christian, Oakley, Nampa Christian, Hagerman, Buhl and Mountain Home.

From Friday night football, Jackson Hole downed Wood River 31 to 28.  Butte County outlasted Camas County 46 to 28.  Declo defeated Buhl 20 to 6.  Rimrock took the win over Hansen 42 to 34, Carey 44 Richfield 22 and it was Shelley 47 over Burley 14.  Minico defeated Mountain Home 69 to 0.  It took overtime for Canyon Ridge to defeat Columbia 40 to 34.  Pocatello outlasted Twin Falls 20 to 7.  It was Preston 28 Jerome 6.  American Falls 32 over Filer 7 and Kimberly defeated Fruitland 20 to 3.  Ririe outlasted Wendell 34 to 21 and Lightouse Christian took the win over Raft River 40 to 12.  Oakley for the win over Murtaugh 76 to 38 and it was Valley for the win over Glenns Ferry 56 to 42.  Garden Valley took the win over Castleford 45 to 18.  Rockland outlasted Hagerman 48 to 12.  North Gem overpowered Shoshone with a score of 50  to 14.  It was Dietrich for the win over Mackay 46 to 8.
