In Gooding last night police arrested a suspect following an officer involved shooting. Authorities responded to the report of an altercation in the parking lot of North Canyon Medical center around 5 pm. Deputies chased the suspect to the Gooding county airport where authorities shot at the suspects’ car. The person was taken for medical treatment and later taken to jail.
The House State Affairs Committee introduced a bill yesterday that would limit who can apply for an absentee ballot in Idaho. The only people allowed to request an absentee ballot would be those in the military; people who are disabled, hospitalized or infirmed; on a religious mission; or living in another state temporarily, are in school or unable to get away from work. Unexpected illness or vacation would not qualify as a reason. Ballots would need to be requested 11 days prior to Election Day.
Two people have been arrested following a shooting near the College of Idaho Campus in Caldwell earlier this week. The 19 year olds are charged with felony unlawful discharge of a firearm at a dwelling, riot and intimidating a witness. Milo Yerby of Middleton and Traystin Riach of Meridian were taken into custody Wednesday at their homes.
The city of Idaho Falls is facing a lawsuit from the family of a man who was mistakenly shot by an officer. Joseph Johnson was killed in February 2021 while police were searching for suspect, Tanner Shoesmith, who ran from police during a traffic stop. Johnson was allegedly wearing dark clothing similar to Shoesmith when Johnson was shot in his own backyard.
The ITD wants to hear your thoughts into proposed changes to the I-84 interchanges in Burley and Heyburn. A meeting is set for next Wednesday at the Burley Hampton inn and online from March 2 through the 15th.
Former Ada County Sheriff Stephen Bartlett is no longer certified by Idaho Peace Officer Standards and Training. Bartlett was appointed sheriff in 2015 after the retirement of then-Sheriff Gary Raney. In June 2021 Bartlett announced his retirement.

The boy’s high school district basketball playoffs are wrapping up. Here are the latest scores from yesterday. I 1AD2 Tournament play Richfield defeated Camas County 44 to 41 in Overtime. In 1AD1 district Play, Castleford sent Valley home ending the Vikings season. The score 48 to 42. Castleford now will play in State games.
Today there is one local game. It’s a 4A game where #3 ranked Jerome will Play #1 ranked Twin Falls at 6pm. The winner will be heading to state.
The state wrestling championships continue today at the Ford Idaho center in Nampa.
On the Twin Falls city council agenda Monday there will be discussion over the possibility of a new recreational center that could be built in the city. The Twin Falls parks and recreation committee will make the presentation. Wendy Davis is the Director of Twin Falls Parks and Rec, she says everything is in motion to move forward. But one significant hurdle remains – a location. The committee hopes to gain support from the new council members.
Casey Jones scored 25 points and Eastern Washington extended the nation’s longest winning streak to 18 with an 89-82 victory over Weber State last night. These two teams both play tomorrow. Eastern Washington visits Idaho State, while Weber State hosts Idaho.
Brayden Parker had 17 points in Idaho State’s 65-55 win over Idaho last night. Divant’e Moffitt led the Vandals in scoring, finishing with 23 points and three steals. Nigel Burris added 13 points for Idaho. In addition, Isaac Jones finished with nine points and five assists.
