Fire crews from Gooding battled a fire that broke out yesterday just before noon when two semi-trucks collided.  One was hauling propane the other a milk truck.  No injuries were reported from the accident on US 26 east of Gooding.

Idaho drivers are finally beginning to see some relief at the pump now that the state’s average gas price is below the $5 mark and has been steadily falling for the past few weeks.  But with crude oil still above $90 per barrel, a sudden increase in fuel demand or a disruption in the supply chain could quickly reverse the trend.  According to AAA, Idaho’s average price for a gallon of regular is $4.91.  Meanwhile, the national average currently sits at $4.21.

An education funding ballot initiative that will go before Idaho voters in November could have the unintended consequences of reversing the Idaho Legislature’s 2022 tax cuts and increasing taxes for low-income families.  Reclaim Idaho organizers intended to raise about $323 million per year for public schools by increasing the corporate income tax rate from 6% to 8% and creating a new 10.925% tax rate.

The Oakley Valley arts council hopes that some contractors will step up to make repairs on the Howells opera house ceiling and roof.  The group has scheduled a couple of public meetings to explain the condition of the building.  The first will be Tuesday August 9^th at 6 at the Chamber of commerce building in Heyburn.  The second will be in Oakley at the Opera house stage at 7 August 10^th.   Howells Opera House is on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Ada County Sheriff's Office is looking for a man who may have drowned after he never resurfaced while swimming at Lucky Peak.  The 46-year-old was last seen Sunday night after 7.  Marine patrol deputies spent the day at Lucky Peak searching for the man.

Fentanyl overdose deaths are way up in Idaho.  Last year the drug claimed 152 lives.  That number is triple from a year ago. 

SPORTS

In American legion baseball, the Minico storm is heading to the regional tournament in Price Utah Thursday.  They defeated the Valley Eagles 11 to 5.  Minico went 5-1 in the tournament, the lone loss coming in game 1 on Sunday against the Eagles, final score, 6-3.

Tomorrow night competitors will be at Bald Mountain for the Sun Valley River Run Summer Series women’s bike ride.   The event will include the lifts running late, lawn games, food trucks and more.

Boise State defensive tackle Scott Matlock was tabbed to the 2022 Chuck Bednarik Award Watch List, the Maxwell Football Club announced Monday.  The Bednarik Award is presented annually to the College Defensive Player of the Year. Established in 1994, the award is named in honor of Chuck "Concrete Charlie" Bednarik who was an All-American at Pennsylvania and an All-Pro linebacker and center for the Philadelphia Eagles.
