A Gooding county deputy was injured while driving his county pickup just before noon yesterday.  Idaho state police say he collided with a semi driven by a 31 year old man from Rupert in a semi-truck who was northbound on 1700 east.  The deputy was westbound at 2950 south.  The truck appears to have failed to stop at the intersection.  Both vehicles caught fire.  The deputy was transported by air ambulance.

Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead for temporary daytime lane reductions on Blue Lakes Boulevard this week as part of the continuing pavement rehabilitation project in Twin Falls.  Contractors will be working 24 hour shifts to safely reopen all lanes of traffic from the Perrine Bridge to Pole Line Road. Unforeseen issues with storm water drainage in the construction zone are requiring temporary daytime closures.

Cooler and wetter weather this spring has alleviated drought concerns in much of Idaho but spurred grass growth that could cause large rangeland wildfires in the southern part of the state as plants dry out this summer, wildfire forecasters told the Idaho Land Board.  Officials also told the board, that the state is well-staffed with wildland firefighters following legislation approved earlier this year to increase firefighter starting pay to $15 an hour and also provide hazard pay up to 25% above their hourly wage.

Mildred Nineth Rivero was sentenced to four fixed years in prison for attempted first degree murder after putting a plastic trash bag over her sleeping husbands head.  She was also ordered to pay 745 in fees.

Idaho officials on Tuesday voted to sell at auction a 14-acre “high-end” island in Payette Lake near the vacation and second-home town of McCall.  Republican Gov. Brad Little and four other members of the Idaho Land Board voted 5-0 to reaffirm a previous board decision to sell the island, potentially this fall.  The island has five lots, with one leased. State officials plan to offer the lots individually or the island as a whole and take whichever brings in the most money.
