Nothing is final until August, but Idaho’s colleges and universities could be poised for an enrollment boost.  Applications and admissions are up and those numbers could translate into more students on campus for 2022-23.

Idaho needs to be better prepared to defend against inevitable cyberattacks that could harm individuals, businesses and critical infrastructure according to the Governor’s Cybersecurity Task Force.   The 34-page report contains 18 major recommendations that include providing active cyber deterrence, increasing spending on cybersecurity, ensuring election integrity and increasing the public’s awareness of cybersecurity threats.

In Hagerman, voters going to the polls on May 17th, will decide on a temporary override levy for 125-thousand a year for two years.  The money would go to the Hagerman fire protection district.  The annual cost to taxpayers would be 45 dollars 50 cents per 100-thousand of taxable value. 

Authorities say two officers were seriously injured in an early shooting yesterday in Pocatello when a man opened fire on them.  Police said the wounded officers were in stable condition at Portneuf Medical Center and are expected to survive. The suspect was also wounded and is expected to survive.  The 45-year-old suspect was armed with an AR-15 rifle and a shotgun.

A house fire yesterday afternoon closed a part of second avenue west between Castleford and Dierkes streets in Twin Falls.  Crews arrived around 2:30 to find an upstairs apartment on fire.  The occupants were able to escape without injuries.  One in the home said when the lights flickered he looked out to see the electrical panel and the back wall on fire. 

Idaho is one of 13 states where abortion would immediately become illegal if Roe V. Wade is overturned.  If the Supreme Court decides to strike down Roe V. Wade, abortion policy would revert to the individual states. Idaho code states anyone who performs an abortion could face two to five years in prison.

SPORTS

In local sports, first for High School baseball, Glenns Ferry took the win over Rimrock with a shutout 10 to 0.  In 2A district action, Declo outlasted Wendell 11 to 9.  In 4A district action, it was Mountain Home 6 Burley 1 in a Play In game. 

For 4A district Softball, it was Minico 5 Canyon Ridge 2 in a play in game. 

On the Golf Courts, Kimberly teams won the 2-A 3-A invite at the Jackpot golf course. 

On  the tennis courts, in Wood River, Twin Falls and Wood River tied it up 6 each. 

On to todays schedule, first for baseball, 3A district Tournament games.  Filer plays Kimberly with the winner headed to state games, Gooding Plays Buhl with the loser out in the Consolation game.

For 3A district Softball, Filer plays Gooding with the loser out and the winner headed to state.  Other games are Kimberly in Buhl and Rimrock traveling to Glenns Ferry.

In Carey it’s district 5 rodeo action and in Burley District 6.
