With the price of crude oil now at 80-dollars a barrel, triple A is warning motorists that there have been massive jumps in the price of gas this week and the national average remains at a seven year high.  Experts now project that unlike a typical fall and winter, some parts of the country could see the highest pump prices of the year in the coming weeks.  Currently in the magic valley the price for regular is at $3-dollars 83 cents.

Idaho Gov. Brad Little is saying he wants to use federal coronavirus relief money to increase day care capacity to help alleviate the state’s worker shortage.  Idaho’s current unemployment rate of 2.9% puts the state back at pre-pandemic levels last seen in early 2020. But now, many employers can’t find enough workers. Little said by taking some onetime money for day care will help the problem. 

If you are enrolled in the city of Twin Falls Trash and Recycling collection program you are able to discard leaves, clippings and small yard debris on your regular scheduled pick up day for no additional cost.  City workers remind residents to remove debris and leaves in the gutters to prevent flooding.

A fire at the Dairgold processing plant in downtown Caldwell kept crews from multiple cities busy yesterday afternoon.  The fire reported just after 2:30 is under investigation.  The plant produces dried milk.  There were no injuries.

The Idaho department of health and welfare said COVID-19 is going to be with us for quite some time.  The world has been battling the problem for 19 months now and officials say it’s going to be a endemic which is a disease or condition regularly found among particular people in certain areas. 

The American Red Cross says they are experiencing the lowest post summer blood supply in six years.  Now they are declaring an emergency.  The universal blood type, O-negative, is at critically low levels with just a half-day supply readily available. The Red Cross strives to have at least a five-day supply of O-negative blood on hand.  Throughout the month of October, the Red Cross is offering $5 gift cards as an incentive for donating.

SPORTS

Former Boise State standout running back Alexander Mattison and wide receiver Cedrick Wilson represented the Blue and Orange well in week five of the NFL.  Mattison posted a career-high 113 yards rushing on 25 attempts, marking his third-career game with over 100 yards rushing and his second of the 2021 season. The running back also hauled in a 15-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Kirk Cousins.  Wilson served as a triple threat in the Cowboys' dominant victory over the Giants. The wide receiver registered 35 yards on one reception, threw a 22-yard pass following a lateral from quarterback Dak Prescott and notched an additional six yards on the ground.

To the local soccer fields we go to get some High Desert District Tournament results.  First for the Boys.  The Sun Valley Community School overpowered Filer 4 to 2.  The Kimberly Buhl game went into overtime with Kimberly coming out on top of the battle 3 to 2. 

In girls action, Kimberly defeated Buhl 2 to 1 and the Sun Valley Community school closed the door on Wendell 2 to 0.

In volleyball games Gooding Downed Buhl 3 to 1.  Kimberly outlasted Declo 3 to 0 and it was Oakley over Lighthouse Christian with a score of 3 to 1.  Valley defeated Wendell 3 to 1 and it was Hagerman saying no to Camas County 3 to 0.  Hansen outlasted Dietrich 3 to 1 and the Sun Valley Community School took the win from Carey 3 to 1.  Murtaugh took the win over Raft river 3 to 0 and Shoshone defeated Glenns Ferry 3 to 0.

On todays schedule for the Great Basin 7 district soccer games, first for the boys #2 Twin Falls will host #4 Wood River in a loser out game at 2 p.m.  #1 Jerome will host #3 Canyon Ridge for the District Championship at 4 p.m with the Winner 4A to State.

On the girls side, #3 Wood River will host # 5 Mountain Home in a loser out game at 5 p.m. #1 Jerome will host #3 Canyon Ridge for the District Championship at 4 p.m. with the Winner of the 4A game headed to State.

There are 4 volleyball games.  Gooding travels to Canyon Ridge, Wendell heads to Glenns Ferry, Valley goes to Richfield and Oakley travels to Hansen.  All games begin at 7 pm.
