Authorities have positively identified five bodies found at a Pocatello funeral home that is under investigation and are working to identify seven others and the remains of approximately 50 fetuses.  The Downard Funeral Home was being scrutinized by police after a state health inspector contacted them about the business.

In northern Idaho hospitals have switched to Crises standards of care.  The conference center at Kootenai Health hospital has been converted into a field hospital of sorts with some of its classrooms filled with hospital beds.   At the nearby main hospital building, some emergency room patients receive care in a converted lobby and hallways.

Yesterday just after 1 pm the Idaho State Police investigated a two vehicle pileup in Shoshone that injured four people.  The crash at 420 north and State Highway 75 occured when a Mack truck driven by 45 year old Casey Connel of Shoshone failed to yield at the intersection.  One of the passengers in the car that was struck was transported by air ambulance for treatment. 

Devils corral is up for sale.  George Panagiotou has owned the property for 20 years but has battled between developers and residents to do anything with the 197 acre site.  It’s listed for 19-point 75 million dollars and will be auctioned off starting September 16 through the 21st.

A fire on the Sawtooth National Recreational and Fairfield Ranger District continues to burn this morning.  At last check the Jakes Gulch Fire has burned 360 acres of grass 23 miles south of Stanley.

West Nile Virus infections in humans and positive mosquito pools and infections in horses are on the rise in the gem state.  Officials say the detections have been made in 13 counties primarily in southern Idaho.

Lori Vallow-Daybell has once again been ruled not competent enough to stand trial.  Chad Daybell has also had his trial delayed. Originally scheduled for Nov. 8th, his trial does not have a new date.  Both Vallow-Daybell and Daybell were indicted for murder charges in connection with the deaths of Tylee Ryan and J.J. Vallow.

SPORTS

After a narrow loss to one of the top football programs in the nation, Boise State will host the Miners tomorrow night at the Extra Mile Arena in Boise. This will be the first time in nearly two decades since BSU has battled on the grid iron with a former Western Athletic Conference foe.   It's rare for the Broncos to play against an old WAC member who didn't also jump ship for the Mountain West Conference, like Fresno State, Nevada, San Jose State, Utah State and Hawai'i did.

Speaking of the old WAC… The Idaho Vandals, coming fresh off a 68 to 0 win against Simon Fraser this past weekend will travel to Indiana to battle against the Indiana Hoosiers, who haven’t seen fans pack their stadium since November of 2019.   This will be the first time that the Vandals have taken the field with the Hoosiers. Idaho is expected to utilize their Two Quarterback system with C.J. Jordan and Mike Beaudry at the helm, the two Combined for 277 yards passing last week.   The Hoosiers offense only scored 6 points in their last game, while leading in some offensive categories. Quarterback Michael Penix will look to take advantage of Idaho’s struggling football program.

The College of Southern Idaho volleyball team hosted Treasure Valley Community College yesterday before the Starr Corporation Invite started today. The Golden Eagles swept the Chukars, 3-0.   As a squad, the Golden Eagles produced 40 kills, compared to a negative hitting percentage for Treasure Valley Community College and 12 total kills.   The Eagles are gearing up for a rematch with Casper tonight, then they’ll face off with, Laramie County College on Friday, and finally, Central Wyoming and Blue Mountain Community College on Saturday.

In Local High School Volleyball, The Murtaugh Lady Devils head into a tournament with Butte County today in Butte County along with Salmon and Mackay.   Mountain Home will travel to Jerome tonight to face off with the Lady Tigers in a conference match at 5:30pm. Camas County will take on Twin Falls Christian Academy.. The Lady Bruins will go head to head with Minico Tonight in Rupert tonight at 7pm.. and the Lady Vikings out of Valley High School will make the trip to Shoshone to battle with the Shoshone Lady Indians tonight at 7pm.

In girls Soccer, Canyon ridge said no to Wood River 1 to 0.  Twin Falls defeated Minico 11 to 1 and Mountain Home defeated Burley 6 to 1.  For the Boys it was Minico 1 Wood River 0.  It was Burley 3 over Mountain Home 0.  The Sun Valley Community School defeated Gooding 10 to 1. 

On the Schedule  today for the Girls, Burley travels to Pocatello, Buhl plays Filer, Kimberly will be in Sun Valley, Wendell plays Gooding and Declo takes on Bliss.  For the Boys Buhl plays Filer, Wendell plays Gooding, Kimberly travels to Sun Valley and Declo takes on Bliss.

There are a couple of Football Games.  Shoshone will be in Glenns Ferry to plays  the J.V.’s. and Mountain Home travels to Gooding.

The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality has issued an Air Pollution Forecast and Caution to notify residents of Camas, Gooding, Jerome, and Twin Falls Counties of degraded air quality.  Due to smoke from wildfires health impacts may occur. Air quality is currently in the Unhealthy-for-Sensitive-Groups category and is forecast to continue through 1 PM MDT Thursday.
