Yesterday Chad Daybell entered a not guilty plea to killing two children.  Lori Vallow-Daybell, the children’s mother has been committed to a mental health facility for treatment.  The body’s of JJ Vallow and Tylee Ryan were found on property owned by Daybell whowas also charged with one count of murder and insurance fraud in connection with the death of his late wife, Tammy Daybell, just weeks before his marriage to the co-defendant.

State health officials say the number of newly confirmed coronavirus cases in Idaho’s continues to drop, and the vast majority of the infections are occurring in unvaccinated people.  Idaho has reported fewer than 200 new cases most days this month.  Dr. Kathryn Turner said more than 90-percent of cases have no record of being vaccinated.

The president and founder of the Real Three Percenters of Idaho, a conservative militia group, have endorsed Lieutenant Governor Janice McGeachin for Idaho governor.  Eric Parker was part of Ammon Bundy's standoff with federal agents in Nevada back in 2014.

Idaho could finish the fiscal year at the end of June with a record budget surplus of $800 million according to Gov. Brad Little.  The governor said he will advocate for additional tax cuts along with investments in key areas, with education topping the priority list. Lawmakers will take up the budget when they meet in January.

With extended dry weather conditions, officials say fuels and timber at high elevations are increasingly dry. As a result, the entire Sawtooth National Forest is under High Fire Danger.  The hot and dry conditions could allow a fire to move through vegetation very fast.  However, there aren’t any current fire restrictions on forest lands.

Three people including a state police trooper were sent to the hospital after a passing motorist struck a patrol car.  The accident yesterday evening happened on Interstate 15 in Eastern Idaho.  The trooper was assisting in a vehicle fire and the two victims from the burning car were inside the troopers vehicle. 

SPORTS

The American legion baseball program has extended into Gooding.  It was just five years ago that the high school started a baseball program.  Now, the community is home to the Gooding Diamondbacks…a B Legion team featuring mostly seventh through ninth graders.  Many of the kids playing for Gooding have been on the diamond with each other for a long time.

The Great Basin Conference revealed the top honors in 4A baseball and two of the top awards went to players from Twin Falls schools.  The Player of the Year is Tyler Horner of Twin Falls High School. He helped the Bruins take third place at the state baseball championships.  Canyon Ridge has its first ever Pitcher of the Year in Ian Hughes. The recent graduate produced a 1.39 ERA and 72 strikeouts. Hughes, nicknamed “Chief”, helped lead the Riverhawks to their first ever state berth.
