Idaho's U.S. Sen. Jim Risch says Congress needs to find a bipartisan solution to improving health care in the United States. The Republican lawmaker spoke out on health care after a small group of activists surprised Risch at a small business forum on Thursday in Boise.

A developer wants to construct five buildings, including at least one restaurant, south of Walmart. HB Properties, based in Salt Lake City, has requested a special use permit that would allow it to have five buildings with drive-through windows and hours of operation extended to 1 a.m.

A White House official says President Donald Trump has received U.S. Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke's recommendations about national monuments protecting wilderness and ocean. Trump is reviewing Zinke's recommendations.

If you bought a lottery ticket in Jerome County, check it closely. The Idaho Lottery announced Wednesday’s 758-million dollar Powerball Jackpot produced a winning ticket in Jerome County for 200-thousand dollars. The winning numbers are 06 – 07 – 16 – 23 – 26 and the Powerball was 04.

Idaho law enforcement officials are looking for an inmate who went missing after he was granted permission to attend a funeral. 30-year-old Ryan Paul Henry was granted furlough to a funeral in Vale, Oregon Aug. 12. Henry was being held for violating his probation in a felony drug possession case.

A second former employee of Chobani has accused the yogurt company of age discrimination. Virginia Tucker, who worked as a maintenance technician at the Twin Falls yogurt plant from January 2013 until she was fired in June 2015, filed a suit Monday in federal court. The suit says Tucker was older than 60 when she was fired.

A Nampa man has been taken into custody after police say shots he fired struck a police cruiser pursuing him. 52-year-old Lloyd Harrod was arrested on suspicion of felony aggravated assault on a police officer.

The top federal prosecutor in Nevada is vowing a third try to convict two accused gunmen of armed assault on a federal officer in a 2014 standoff that stopped a cattle roundup near states' rights figure Cliven Bundy's ranch. On Tuesday, a jury acquitted Eric Parker and Scott Drexler.

His 1992 debut album Some Gave All has been certified 9 x Multi-Platinum in the US and is the longest time spent by a debut artist at #1 on the Billboard chart. Born on this day in Framingham, Massachusetts, was Jo Dee Marie Messina country music singer, songwriter, who has scored nine #1 singles on the Billboard country music charts. She has been honored by the Country Music Association, The Academy of Country Music and has been nominated for two Grammy Awards. Mindy McCready was jailed in Clearwater, Florida, after Pinellas County authorities arrested her on a warrant issued by the Williamson County sheriff's department in Franklin, Tennessee. McCready allegedly left Tennessee without telling her parole officer and did not report to her officer in July. This is her second parole violation and as a result, she was not allowed to post bail. McCready was on probation after pleading guilty to fraudulently obtaining the prescription drug, OxyContin, last year.

2009
Reba McEntire released her twenty-fifth studio album Keep on Loving You which became McEntire's second album to top both the Billboard Country and 200 charts, selling almost 96,000 copies within its first week. With the album, McEntire broke the record for the female country artist with the most Billboard #1 albums, which was previously held by Loretta Lynn.

The last ever Louisiana Hayride show was broadcast. The creators of the show took the name from the 1941 book with that title by Harnett Thomas Kane.

Dixie Chicks released their sixth studio album Home, which is dominated by up-tempo bluegrass and pensive ballads. In addition, the text of the opening track and first single, "Long Time Gone", was a pointed criticism of contemporary country music radio, accusing it of ignoring the soul of the genre as exemplified by Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, and Hank Williams.

Lee Brice’s “Redneck” Family to Face Off Against Jerrod Niemann’s “Genius” Family on Sunday’s “Celebrity Family Feud”

The families of longtime buddies Lee Brice and Jerrod Niemann will face off during an episode of ABC’s Celebrity Family Feud that airs on Sunday, Aug. 27, at 8 p.m. ET.

Lee and Jerrod will be vying for $25,000 for their favorite charities on the popular game show that’s hosted by Steve Harvey. Lee will be playing for Folds of Honor, while Jerrod will be playing for the U.S.O.

“We had so much fun doing the show,” says Lee to Nash Country Daily. “It was the funniest thing because I brought the most red, red, redneck family that’s ever been on the show. Steve Harvey, who is a funny dude, was speechless at some of the things that came out of their mouths. My cousins and brother, they have no filter, and they are all country as hell. And then to go up against Jerrod’s family, which is all geniuses—I think they had a brain surgeon over—just made for great TV. You don’t want to miss it.”

On Tuesday night, Mel B did what I think we've all wanted to do to Simon Cowell at one point in time or another. She stood up and threw a drink at his face on the set of America's Got Talent. And she's NOT sorry. The spat started when Cowell made a joke at the expense of the former Spice Girl after a magician’s stunt flopped on the show due to a technical malfunction. He said “I kind of imagine this would be like Mel B’s wedding night. A lot of anticipation, not much promise or delivery.” Immediately following the comment, Mel B stood up, removed the lid from her drink, and threw it right at Simon's face. In an interview with E! News, Mel B said the night was a struggle for her after contestant Evie Clair made her cry when she sang about her dad passing away of cancer. Mel said it made her think about HER dad who recently passed away after a nine year battle with cancer. She said “She just sounded so beautiful and I couldn’t stop crying, so I go from that to Simon saying something so rude and inappropriate.” Following the drink toss, Mel B stormed off set. In the interview, she said "My journey tonight was all over the place, but I’m a very real, honest person, so what you see is what you get.”

According to Katy Perry, the bad blood between her and Calvin Harris is a thing of the past. In 2011, the two were in a Twitter fued after Harris canceled plans to open for her on tour last minute. She said "We'd had little falling outs here and there, (and) it was time to put all that behind us. (He) played me this one part for this new song called ‘Feels' and I was like, ‘Oh yeah.' This is like my favorite song off the record. I was just down to do it." The single that features both Harris AND Perry went top 10 this week on the pop charts. Think we'll ever see a Katy Perry / Taylor Swift collaboration? I wouldn't hold your breath.

And new movies out this weekend include Wind River, which shows tonight at the Magic Valley Cinema 13 in Twin and the Magic Lantern Theaters in Ketchum. In the film, an FBI agent played by Elizabeth Olsen and a local tracker played by Jeremy Renner probe a murder at a Native American reservation. Jon Bernthal co-stars. This is the directoral debut for screenwriter Taylor Sheridan. The film premiered at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival. And the one this weekend for the kids is the 3D computer-animated musical adventure "Leap! (Ballerina)". In it, an 11 year old orphaned girl arrives in Paris with no money but one big, passionate dream: to become a dancer. With nothing left to lose, she takes a big risk: she 'borrows' a spoiled brat's identity and enters the Opera Ballet School. But how long can she be someone else? Mentored by the tough and mysterious cleaner, Odette the girl learns that talent is not enough - it takes hard work to be better than her ruthless, conniving fellow students. That and friendship. In the film, her inventive, exhausting and charismatic best friend also has a dream of becoming a famous inventor. Together, they both encourage each other to reach for the stars. The film stars the voices of Elle Fanning, Dane DeHaan, Maddie Ziegler and Carly Rae Jepsen and premieres tonight at the Magic Valley Cinema 13 and at the Magic Lantern.

A Utah man is out more than $20,000 after he set up an epic solar eclipse festival that an underwhelming amount of people showed up to. Jeff Webb's eclipse festival in Cascade was complete with campsites, shuttles for parking, eight live bands, portable toilets and food for thousands of people.

A judge has ruled that grizzly bears in Montana and Idaho near the Canadian border can be considered endangered even if they are not on the brink of extinction. The order reversed the 2014 re-classification by U.S. wildlife officials for the 40-50 bears of the Cabinet-Yaak bear population under the federal Endangered Species Act. The officials said the bear population had stabilized and that its status should be "threatened." The judge sided with a conservation group that sued.

Officials in Eagle say a high school football field that had construction delays will be ready for Friday's home opener. The West Ada School District said the $600,000 field at Eagle High School will be ready for the team's game against defending state champion Mountain View.

A 58-year-old Washington state woman died and a 67-year-old Washington state man was injured when their utility-terrain vehicle rolled over at the St. Anthony Sand Dunes in eastern Idaho. Authorities say Kimberly Bailey died in the crash on Monday and Allen Connelly sustained injuries after both were thrown from the vehicle during the rollover.

Montana environmental regulators have set a reclamation bond at just over $154,000 for gold exploration on private property north of Yellowstone National Park. The bond is set at what the state DEQ estimates it would cost to reclaim the area if Lucky Minerals failed to do the work.

A rescue crew was called out around 8:30 Tuesday night that a BASE jumper was stuck on the canyon wall just below the Elevation 486 restaurant. The man was rescued just after 10 pm. Officials say he refused medical treatment.

Born on this day in Evansville, Indiana, was Fred Rose an American Hall of Fame songwriter and music publishing executive. Along with Hank Williams and the "Father of Country Music", Jimmie Rodgers, Fred Rose was one of the three charter members of the Country Music Hall of Fame when it opened in 1961. He was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1970 and into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1985. Rose died on December 1, 1954.

Born on this day near Magna, Utah, was Kristyn Osborn. With sisters Kristyn and Kassidy, she formed SHeDAISY, whose 1999 debut album, The Whole SHeBANG, won them a nomination from the Academy of Country Music for top new duet or group. American drummer and session musician Larrie Londin died. He played on more hit records during his career than any other drummer, with the possible exception of the legendary session drummer Hal Blaine. Londin moved to Nashville in 1969, and grew to be regarded as Nashville's top session drummer and played with a wide range of artists, including Emmylou Harris, Charley Pride, Randy Travis, Porter Wagoner, Dolly Parton, Albert Lee, Larry Carlton, Merle Haggard, Hank Snow, Jerry Reed, Rosanne Cash, Reba McEntire, KT Oslin, Vince Gill, Ricky Skaggs, Hank Williams, Jr., Chet Atkins, Ronnie Milsap, and many others.

Singer, songwriter, June Carter Cash underwent surgery to have a pacemaker installed. June died two years later in Nashville, Tennessee, on May 15, 2003, of complications following heart valve replacement surgery, in the company of her family and her husband of 35 years, Johnny Cash.

Doug Stone, who charted four #1 country hits in the '90s, was arrested for DUI in Gallatin, Tenn after he was pulled over when local police officers were called about a possible intoxicated driver. Stone was jailed and released later that day on $3,000 bond.

2013
"Cruise" by Florida Georgia Line logged its 24th week at #1, the longest run at #1 in the chart's 69-year history (the previous record was 21 weeks held jointly by three songs, the last of which was Webb Pierce's "In the Jailhouse Now"). In January 2014, it overtook Lady Antebellum's "Need You Now" and became the best-selling country song in the US. As of March 2014, the song has sold in total 6,577,000 copies in the US.

Those like my wife who speculated that Taylor Swift’s cryptic messages and actions on social media over the last week have had something to do with dropping a new record – were totally on to something. Yesterday, Taylor revealed her big secret and announced to the world that on November 10^th, she’ll drop her new sixth studio album ‘Reputation’. This is Taylor’s first major release in three years, and she says the new single will be released TONIGHT. Taylor pulled a Beyonce when she kept all of this new record news to herself until it was almost time to drop it on the world – never mentioning a word on social media or in interviews that she had been working on new material, and almost completely vanishing from the public eye for the last year. A source close to Swift told E! that Taylor has been working on(the album) around the clock and will be making an announcement soon, and that she’s really excited about her new music and can't wait to share it with her fans. And rest assured, as soon as we have the new Taylor single in our hands later today, we’ll share it with you before anyone else here on Hot 100 FM.

Netflix has released its "coming in" and "going out" list for September, and according to the streaming platform, next month Netflix users will have access to the live-action Beauty and the Beast, Hercules, Mulan and Pocahontas. And Ariana Grande delivered some sad news to her fans in Vietnam yesterday. On her Instagram Story, the 24 year old singer announced that she had to cancel last night’s show of her Dangerous Woman Tour in Ho Chi Minh City due to health issues. She said “I came here to Vietnam, so excited to perform, my doctor won’t allow me to do the show for you tonight. I’m so, so sorry. There is nothing I hate to do more than to do this, but I promise to make it up to you in the future. I love you and thank you for understanding.” Grande did not give any details about the nature of her illness, but this isn’t the first time the star has had to cancel a few tour dates this summer. Last month she axed a pair of shows in Monterrey, Mexico for unknown reasons. Twin Falls Police are asking for your help in locating two white males that reportedly attempted to entice children. Yesterday, authorities were notified that juveniles were approached and offered rides to school. The first occurred last Thursday in the area of Heyburn and Teton street. The second reported yesterday in the area of Sunrise Blvd. and Shoup Avenue East.

A jack-knifed semi-truck crashed in a construction zone yesterday blocking three lanes of traffic. Police say both the eastbound lanes and one westbound lane were closed when the crash occurred near milepost 150 near Wendell.

A telephone scam is targeting Idahoans threatening them with prosecution for failure to report for jury service and asking them for personal information. For the record, the courts will not ask anyone for sensitive info over the phone.

A U.S. Forest Service firetruck rolled on it’s top along I-84 yesterday. Westbound traffic was stopped near milepost 191 near Eden in Jerome County. No injuries were reported.

House Speaker Paul Ryan has made his first official visit to Idaho as sitting speaker to host a GOP joint fundraiser. Ryan's brief appearance in downtown Boise yesterday included a $10,000-per-person VIP roundtable discussion.

Three Idaho firefighters battling a grass and brush fire threatening homes suffered burns and one with a broken leg after their fire truck ran over a gas can, engulfing the truck in flames. The gas can fell from the truck near the town of Arimo.

Employees at the Southwest Idaho Treatment Center in Nampa discovered a male resident dead in his bed. Police at first thought the death that occurred Sunday may have been a homicide, but they now are investigating it as a suspicious death.

Idaho's U.S. Rep. Raul Labrador says maybe it's time for Boise State University President Bob Kustra to resign after Kustra criticized the Republican congressman's response to a recent white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Officials say one person is dead and two are seriously injured after a boating accident at the Ririe Reservoir, east of Idaho Falls. The three were thrown off the boat, which spun out of control and hit them.

The royal sons were speaking as part of an upcoming documentary BBC is rolling out Prince William added " “Back then there were no smart phones and things like that, so you couldn’t get your news. Thankfully, we had the privacy to mourn and to try to collect our thoughts and have that space away from everybody. We had no idea the reaction to her death would be quite so huge.” Diana, 7 Days premieres in the states for the first time on September 1st and will air on NBC.

Kudos to George Clooney and wife Amal Clooney. The two opened their wallets to fight hate. With the support of the Hollywood power couple, The Clooney Foundation for Justice announced yesterday a $1 million donation to the Southern Poverty Law Center to increase the organization’s capacity to combat hate groups. The SPLC currently tracks more than 1,600 extremist hate groups operating in the U.S. Through litigation, the non-profit won court judgments against 10 white supremacist organizations and 50 individuals who led them or participated in violent acts.

Last week, I shared with you the Forbes list of top paid Hollywood actresses that placed Emma Stone at the top of the list, bringing in an estimated $26 million over the last twelve months. And if this isn't glaring evidence that men are still paid WAY more than women, I don't know what is. In the top paid ACTORS list, Mark Wahlberg took the number one spot this year - earning SIXTY EIGHT MILLION DOLLARS, a little more than two and a half times what the top paid actress paid. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson dropped to the No. 2 spot this year, down from #1 last year, raking in $65 million. And in third was Vin Diesel, bringing in 54.5 million last year.

In a country where millions live below the poverty line, and government leaves empty promise after empty promise on the table, the LAST thing you want to hear about and see is how much MONEY and ENTITLEMENT they;re living with. Apparently Louise Linton, wife of Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin didn't get the memo. She's under fire for boasting about her wealth on Facebook Monday - and has since apologized for doing so. In an apology, she wrote "“I apologize for my post on social media yesterday as well as my response,” she said, according to a publicist. “It was inappropriate and highly insensitive.” The social media fire started after Linton posted a pic of her getting off a plane with her husband. The two had just returned home from their honeymoon, and Linton was dressed head to toe in designer fashion. One Instagram user posted "Glad we could pay for your little getaway," and the feud was on. Linton replied “Did you think this was a personal trip? Adorable! Do you think the US govt paid for our honeymoon or personal travel?! Lololol. Have you given more to the economy than me and my husband? Either as an individual earner in taxes OR in self sacrifice to your country? I’m pretty sure we paid more taxes toward our day ‘trip’ than you did. Pretty sure the amount we sacrifice per year is a lot more than you’d be willing to sacrifice if the choice was yours.” Because Mnunchin is in Trump's cabinet, the two were provided an extensive government security detail for the trip.

Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl is choosing to have a judge and not a military jury, try him on charges that he endangered comrades by walking off his post in Afghanistan. Bergdahl's lawyers told the court in a filing last week that they were choosing to have a trial by judge alone. He faces charges of desertion and misbehavior before the enemy at his trial scheduled for late October.

A federal jury in Las Vegas is deliberating again in the retrial of four men accused of wielding assault weapons against federal agents in a 2014 standoff near the Nevada ranch of anti-government figure Cliven Bundy. Jurors returned to work Monday after spending a little more than two days last week going over five weeks of evidence in the case. The jury is considering 10 charges including conspiracy, weapon possession and assault on a federal officer.

A Utah family is capitalizing on the large number of solar eclipse chasers by setting up a campsite in Idaho to raise money for cancer treatment. The Ahlstrom family is conducting the fundraiser for research for a cure for multiple myeloma at their Rexburg campsite. They hope to raise $23,000.

The town of Weiser became much more crowded during the eclipse. One store owner said there were 10,000 to 15,000 people in town for the rare celestial event. That's a huge influx for the town, which normally has just 5,500 residents.

A coffee company has issued a recall notice of all of its eclipse glasses. Dutch Bros. Coffee handed out eclipse glasses Sunday at many of its locations. But issued a recall after discovering the certification of safety was questionable.

Two months after the bodies of two women and a teen girl were discovered inside a shed on the property of a Caldwell home, a family member of two of the victims has visited the house. Reports say Mark Medley visited the Caldwell home where his sister-in-law, Nadja Medley, and niece, Payton Medley, were killed. Nadja and her daughter moved to Caldwell to be with suspect Gerald Michael Bullinger. He has not been found. The third victim found was Bullinger's wife, Cheryl Baker.

American Indian tribes for decades have been able to opt into the death penalty for certain federal crimes on tribal land. Nearly all reject it. Tribes and legal experts say the decision goes back to culture and tradition, past treatment of American Indians and fairness in the justice system.

It reached the top of the charts in 1944.

Bonnie Tyler's 1983 hit, "Total Eclipse of the Heart," has climbed to number 1 on the iTunes charts as the popular song became an unofficial anthem for yesterday's total solar eclipse. The song, from Tyler's 1982 album, "Faster Than the Speed of Night," surpassed Luis Fonsi and the Biebs' mega-hit "Despacito" yesterday, and is priced at $1.29 in the iTunes app. Tyler performed the hit on yesterday's Good Morning America and said she was thrilled to sing the song. She said "I never get tired of singing the song! It's a great song and it gets everyone in the mood." She performed it on the show via video feed from the special Royal Carribean Total Eclipse Cruise. She's on-board the cruise with DNCE. I did NOT drink the kool-aid yesterday, and refused to be your eclipse cliche - and did NOT play the song at the moment the eclipse peaked at 11:32a or whatever it was - and boy did I hear about it. I'm sorry!

Taylor Swift has the interwebs in an uproar over what exactly her next move will be. Three days after she quite literally disappeared from all major social networking sites, she started posting clues on her Facebook, Twitter and Instagram feeds as well as on taylorswift.com as the total solar eclipse was mesmerizing America midday yesterday. In the midst of the eclipse yesterday, Taylor posted a mysterious clip of what looked like a snake's tail popping up on her social media. Swift has yet to confirm anything herself, but the internet has decided that this is the beginning of a Taylor Swift album - or at least SINGLE drop in the coming days. Nobody has a timeline, and nobody but she herself knows what's to come next... but one thing everybody DOES know is that if there's one person on this planet who knows how to get EVERYBODY'S attention, it's most definitely the one and only Tay-Tay.

Katy Perry opened up about rumors that she was getting back together with ex-pseudo-boyfriend Orlando Bloom yesterday after the two were spotted together at an Ed Sheeran concert earlier this month. She said “Well, you know, I think people are in and out of your life, and it’s nice to keep people you love around you. When you get older, lines get blurred. And you know what, I’m really busy. I’m about to go on tour for another year. People Magazine reported last week that the two have been in touch since they broke up in February. The source who spilled the beans to People said “They ended things as friends, they continue to be friends.” And going back to Taylor Swift who somehow lands in EVERY headline when she wants to, Katy also said of their feud yesterday, that she’d “love for the beef to end. I’d love to take it off the barbecue.” She continued, saying “I’m down, but, I haven’t heard anything of it.”

It’s Eclipse day! BLM officials ask that travelers play it safe on the dry lands and be very careful not to start a wildfire. Hundreds of thousands of visitors will be in the gem state where totality will be reached as the day turns to night for a few minutes. In Idaho that will happen between just after 10 am and end at about 1 pm. Locally it will be during the 11 am hour. It will last for about 2 minutes.

This is also the first day of school for many districts in the area. School opens in Shoshone, Bliss, Wendell, Camas County, St. Edwards’s catholic school CSI in Twin Falls. Some districts including Jerome pushed back their start dates. Buhl canceled school altogether. Other districts say they will cancel school if buses can’t make it to campus. Other districts who were planning a field trip to watch the eclipse canceled the plans after they feared being caught up in a traffic gridlock.

Motels are running at 100-percent capacity in the area and officials with triple-A say they are seeing gas prices spike 10 to 15 cents a gallon. It’s not expected to go back down for several weeks due to the demand on the system. One estimate said upwards to 500-thousand people will be somewhere in the path of totality in Southern Idaho. Police and all other emergency workers say it’s all hands on deck as they patrol and deal with the influx of people.

Idaho’s unemployment fell to 3-percent in July. That’s the lowest level in the state officials say since mid-2008. Total employment in the state climbed to nearly 794-thounsand. Non-farm jobs grew by 4300.

Idaho State Police are investigating the death of a pedestrian on Interstate 15 in Idaho Falls. Police say 41-year-old Alexis A. Fehringer of Idaho Falls was lying in the northbound lane of travel at about 1 a.m.

Yellowstone National Park officials are about to deliberately poison off nonnative fish species in one of the park's major river drainages. The operation along the upper Gibbon River begins Monday and will include lakes in the river drainage.

A Washington state man that northern Idaho authorities say drove the wrong way on Interstate 90 and nearly collided with an Idaho State Police trooper transporting a prisoner has been taken into custody on suspicion of drunk driving. The Kootenai County Sheriff's Office says police arrested 46-year-old Shannon M. Defrance of Spokane at about 2 a.m. Saturday.

American Western swing singer Spade Cooley was convicted of first-degree murder by a jury. Cooley had suspected his second wife, Ella Mae Cooley of repeatedly being unfaithful, (she had an affair with Roy Rogers), and he murdered her at their home in front of their 14-year-old daughter. It was said that after he had beaten her to death he crushed a lighted cigarette against her skin to see whether she was dead. Cooley had scored over 6 top 10 Country hits in the 1940's.

Sun Records Legend Sonny Burgess Dead at Age 88

Rockabilly Pioneer Made His Mark With "Red-Headed Woman” and “We Wanna Boogie”

Rockabilly pioneer Sonny Burgess, one of the key artists at Sun Records in Memphis, died Friday night (Aug. 18) in Little Rock, Arkansas at age 88, according to The Commercial Appeal newspaper in Memphs.

While Sun labelmates Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis eclipsed Burgess in terms of commercial success, Burgess was one of rockabilly’s most influential singers and guitarists.

Born Albert “Sonny” Burgess in Newport, Arkansas, he led a band called the Rocky Road Ramblers before joining the Army during the Korean conflict. Returning to Arkansas in 1953, he worked as a cotton farmer while leading the Moonlighters, a dance band that evolved into the Pacers two years later.

After the Pacers opened concerts for him in Arkansas, Presley told Burgess to contact Sun Records founder Sam Phillips, who agreed to record the band.

Burgess and the Pacers’ debut single — “Red-Headed Woman” and “We Wanna Boogie” — was released in 1956. The raw power of the tracks established Burgess’ place in rock history. They followed it up with other singles, including “Ain’t Got a Thing,” “Restless,” “Daddy Blues” and “Thunderbird.”

The Pacers continued to tour during the ’60s, and Burgess also worked as a member of Conway Twitty’s band during the time period. In the ’80s, he teamed with guitarist Paul Burlison, bassist Stan Kesler and several other Sun Records alumni to form the Sun Rhythm Section, releasing the album Old Time Rock ‘n’ Roll in 1987.

Burgess reunited the Pacers in the ’90s and continued tour, finding renewed popularity in Europe and Japan. Burgess continued to perform until July, when he was hospitalized after falling at his home.

Burgess was awarded an honorary doctorate from Arkansas State University in 2014 and the Folklife Award by the Arkansas Arts Council in 2016.

Charley Pride: “I’m in the Business of Selling Lyrics, Feelings and Emotions”

Charley Pride has one of the best and most distinctive voices in the history of country music — or even pop music, for that matter — but the 83-year-old gets right to the point when it comes to talking business.

“I’m in the business of selling lyrics, feelings and emotions. …That’s what’s keeping me so strong,” he says, when discussing Music in My Heart, his first new album in six years.

That doesn’t mean he’s been taking it easy down in his Dallas headquarters. He still goes on the road, performs concerts, sells CDs and continues to be amazed by the adulation of the fans.

“I’m blessed,” the Country Music Hall of Fame member says of that loyal following and their hunger to purchase some of his albums, including the self-produced stuff he did before his six-year absence from the recording studio.

“When I come out, they jump up and applaud,” he says. “They hear one line and they applaud. By the time we get into ‘Is Anybody Going to San Antone,’ they’re screaming.

“Then, about middleways of the show, someone will call out ‘Charley, you’ve still got it!”

While that voice of approval makes the singer happy, the gentleman who some might call the “Jackie Robinson of Country Music,” figures people haven’t even heard him at his best yet.

“When I cut this last album and listen to what I’m doing right now, the thing is I might be getting better. I’m still learning,” says the star who was just the second African-American artist to make it as a Grand Ole Opry star. DeFord Bailey, the harmonica player who performed with Roy Acuff back when he was “The King of Country Music,” was the first.

Pride became a star in the segregated South not because he was black, but despite it. And his tool for survival and equality was the mellow voice.

“I’m pleased that the good Lord blessed me with this voice,” he says.

And it is that voice that captivated Billy Yates, much-honored songwriter and journeyman county performer and producer, who took the helm for the recording of Music in My Heart.

New Music From Luke Bryan on Aug. 23

Luke Bryan has not released new music since his single, “Fast,” in November 2016, which became the sixth song from his 2015 album, Kill the Lights, to reach No. 1.

Luke’s fans have been waiting for new music since “Fast” reached No. 1 in April—and it sounds like they won’t be waiting much longer.

Luke told ABC News in July: “Certainly, I’m in the studio. [I’ve] recorded some stuff, [and am] probably halfway through my project. [I’m] really getting geared up.”

Legendary slapstick-loving comedian and generous fundraiser Jerry Lewis died yesterday after a brief illness. He was 91. ewis first gained fame for his frenzied comedy-and-music act with singer Dean Martin. When that ended in the mid-1950s, Lewis went solo, and by the early ’60s, he had become a top draw in movies such as “The Bellboy,” “The Nutty Professor” and “The Patsy.” Along the way, he pioneered the use of videotape and closed-circuit monitors in moviemaking, a now-standard technique called video assist. He was also monumental in fundraising efforts for the Muscular Distrophy Association. He first helped raise money for MDA in a telethon in 1956. His telethon was so successful that after some time, children affected by the disease became known as “Jerry’s kids.” The telethon, long known as “The Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon,” began airing on Labor Day weekend in 1966, and Lewis served as host until 2011.

The Hitman's Bodyguard came in 1st at the box office over the weekend bringing in 21.6 million dollars. Annabelle: Creation slipped to 2nd place with 15.5 million. A soft open for Logan Lucky. It debuted in 3rd this weekend with a mere 8 million dollars. Dunkirk fell two spots to land at number four with 6.7 million, and rounding out the top 5 was The Nutjob 2: Nutty By Naturek down two spots from last week with 5.1 million.

Taylor Swift is up to something - but what it is, we don't really know. Over the weekend, Swift has left a literal blank space across social media platforms, wiping her Internet presence clean for reasons unknown. Her Instagram, Twitter, Facebook page, and Tumblr have been all but obliterated, with the accounts remaining active but void of all photos, posts, updates, and the like. Even her official website, taylorswift.com, has gone out of commission. So what's she up to? Nobody knows. It’s possible she’s just looking for a fresh start after a year out of the spotlight. There's also a small chance she was hacked - but you'd think we would have heard about that by now as hackers are pretty quick to own their successes. MOST people, though, are speculating that she's about to drop a new single — or even a whole album. It’s been three years since the singer came out with her last album, “1989,” and debuted the single “Shake It Off,” and her sixth album is overdue considering Swift is known for releasing an album every two years. But for now, she's silent - and so are all of her people... so we'll just have to wait this one out.

A federal jury has resumed deliberations in Las Vegas in the retrial of four men accused of wielding assault weapons against federal agents in a 2014 standoff near the Nevada ranch of Cliven Bundy. The four men were tried earlier this year before a jury that failed to reach verdicts in their cases, but found two co-defendants guilty of some charges.

Eastern Idaho officials say two rabid bats were recently found in Idaho Falls and Swan Valley. Epidemiologist Ken Anderson says rabies can be transmitted to humans and other animals that have been bitten, scratched or come in close contact with an infected bat.

City officials say two popular ponds in Boise can reopen after being closed for nearly two months due to an E. coli outbreak. The Boise Parks and Recreation announced Thursday that E. coli levels have remained consistently low enough to safely reopen the Esther Simplot ponds.

People wanting to watch the eclipse Monday, is heading this way. Traffic is backed up for miles as drivers try to reach an eclipse-themed festival for 30,000 people in Oregon. About 200,000 people are expected to visit that state. In Idaho, officials are expecting about 500,000 to visit somewhere in the path of the eclipse.

A Canadian mining company says it's reached an agreement with conservation groups to protect two Montana trout streams and hundreds of acres of land used by migrating elk from Yellowstone National Park. Representatives of Kinross Gold Corp., Trout Unlimited and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation announced the agreement in Jardine, Montana. The conservation agreement includes 549 acres at the site.

An Idaho Power crew found a surprise last week while working near Twin Falls. It came in the form of 30-thousand honey bees that made a regulator rack on a pole their home. A rescue of sorts was performed when the company called on the help of area beekeepers who were lifted to the bees high on the pole.

Jerome High School vice-principal and girls basketball coach has a new title. Jeremy Munroe was recently named the school’s athletic director replacing Kaly Gillette-Shippen who moved to Burley.

Waylon Jennings was at #1 on the US country album charts with Ol' Waylon. The album features one of his signature songs, a track featuring Willie Nelson called "Luckenbach, Texas (Back to the Basics of Love)", as well as the Neil Diamond song "Sweet Caroline", a version of Kenny Rogers' "Lucille" and a medley of the two Arthur Crudup songs previous recorded by Elvis.

Regal, Minnesota had the honour of being the smallest place Johnny Cash had ever played. The farm town, consisting of two bars, a church and a baseball field, only had a population of around 45 people, although a crowd approaching 5000 people, mostly from out of town, attended the show, billed as Cornstalk ‘89.

2003
Alan Jackson and Jimmy Buffett were at #1 on the Billboard country singles chart with the Jim "Moose" Brown and Don Rollins penned song, "It's Five O'Clock Somewhere". The song spent a total of eight weeks at the top of the chart and won the Country Music Association (CMA) Award for Vocal Event of the Year.

Wynonna Judd's husband Scott "Cactus" Moser, who played drums in both her road band and Highway 101, was involved in a motorcycle crash in South Dakota which resulted in the amputation of a leg.

Alan Jackson, Chris Stapleton Will Perform at ACM Honors Ceremony

Alan Jackson and Chris Stapleton have been added to the list of performers at the 11th annual ACM Honors ceremony taking place Wednesday (Aug. 23) at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium.

They join several other performers previously announced by the Academy of Country Music, including Kelsea Ballerini, Vince Gill, Toby Keith, Little Big Town, Maren Morris, Brad Paisley, Thomas Rhett, Hillary Scott and George Strait.

The ACM has also confirmed Jason Aldean, Lady Antebellum, songwriters Ross Copperman and Jimmy Webb and radio personality Bobby Bones as the latest additions to the list of presenters.

This year’s honorees include Reba McEntire, Dolly Parton, Toby Keith, George Strait and CMT’s Nashville.

The ACM Honors is an evening dedicated to celebrating the special honorees and off-camera category winners from the 52nd Academy of Country Music Awards. The two-hour televised special will air on Sept. 15 on CBS.

Tickets for special taping are on sale via Ticketmaster.com and the Ryman box office.

Elvis Week Winds Down in Memphis

Elvis Week is winding down in Memphis, Tennessee. And fans who made the pilgrimage to Graceland to pay their respects to the King of rock ‘n’ roll on the 40th anniversary of his death were met with some changes.

At Tuesday’s (April 15) candlelight vigil, Elvis Presley Enterprises implemented a $28.75 admission to view his grave where in years past such access was free. The admission did include access to the new $45 million entertainment complex, Elvis Presley’s Memphis, which is part of a $140 million expansion on Elvis Presley Boulevard that includes a new 450-room hotel.

According to Time, some fans who have attended Elvis Week for years at Graceland were unhappy with the changes, but others took them in stride (officials expected the vigil to draw up to 50,000 people). By the time the line started going up the hill, Elvis Presley Boulevard was packed with fans most of the way down the stone wall encompassing the King’s former home and final resting place.

Before the procession began, Presley’s former wife, Priscilla Presley, and their daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, thanked the crowd for their love and dedication.

Any musician should be so lucky to garner such a loyal following as Presley’s. A highlight of Elvis Week in Memphis is the sold-out Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest, which draws hundreds of competitors dressed in their finest Presley garb with ducktail hair, scarves and rings on every finger.

Actor Drake Milligan, who played Presley on CMT’s Sun Records, became an instant Presley fan when he saw his first tribute performer at around age 7.

“My family was eating at a restaurant when we saw my first Elvis impersonator by total accident,” he told CMT.com in February. “I had heard some Elvis songs on the radio. During Christmastime, they’d play ‘Blue Christmas,’ and I knew I liked his songs, but I didn’t know who it was singing them. I just knew I liked them. … I started reading, watching and just picking up everything I could about him.”

Then there are fans who take their love of the King to religious extremes and have shrines dedicated to his memory that take up whole rooms. The late Paul MacCleod saw Presley perform live 120 times and loving the King was his life’s work.

MacLeod ran his former home, Graceland Too in Holly Springs, Mississippi, as a 24-hour museum, and it housed arguably the world’s biggest collection of Presley memorabilia. The pièce de résistance was the electric chair on the back porch possibly in honor of Presley’s 1957 movie Jailhouse Rock.

In July 2014, MacLeod shot and killed a man on the front porch of Graceland Too, and two days later, he had a heart attack and died on that same porch. The contents of Graceland Too were sold at auction in 2015.

Then there are the fanatics who think Presley still walks among the living. Had he not died in Memphis on Aug. 16, 1977, Jan. 8 would have been his 82nd birthday.

Presley and his music changed the world, and his legacy lives on in the work he left behind. This summer, Legacy and RCA released a three-disc box set and digital collection A Boy From Tupelo — the Complete 1953-1955 Recordings, which is the most comprehensive collection of early Presley music ever assembled.

Among the songs are every known Sun Records master and outtake, including “My Happiness,” “That’s When Your Heartaches Begin,” “I’ll Never Stand In Your Way” and “It Wouldn’t Be the Same (Without You),” which were the first songs Presley paid money to record before signing with Sun. The collection also includes every live performance and radio recording known to exist from that period.

Cash Family “Sickened” by Neo-Nazi Wearing Johnny Cash Shirt

“We were alerted to a video of a young man in Charlottesville, a self-proclaimed neo-Nazi, spewing hatred and bile. He was wearing a t-shirt emblazoned with the name of Johnny Cash, our father. We were sickened by the association,” wrote Rosanne, in part, on behalf of her siblings Kathy, Cindy, Tara and John Carter.

Rosanne concluded the post with: “To any who claim supremacy over other human beings, to any who believe in racial or religious hierarchy: we are not you. Our father, as a person, icon, or symbol, is not you. We ask that the Cash name be kept far away from destructive and hateful ideology. We choose love.”

Born on this day in Galloway, Texas was American country music singer-songwriter James Travis Reeves who became known as Jim Reeves, (Gentleman Jim). With records charting from the 1950s to the 1980s, he became well known as a practitioner of the Nashville sound. Reeves who scored over ten Country music #1’s died in a plane crash on 31st July 1964 aged 40. He is a member of both the Country Music and Texas Country Music Halls of Fame.

Born on this day was 'Sneaky' Pete Kleinow, US country-rock steel guitar player. He was one of the original members of the Flying Burrito Brothers with the Byrds' Chris Hillman and Gram Parsons and also worked with John Lennon and Joni Mitchell. He died 6th Jan 2007 aged 72.

Born on this day in San Antonio, Texas was Justin Tubb, the oldest son of legendary country singer Ernest Tubb. He scored two duets with Goldie Hill, ("Looking Back to See" and "Sure Fire Kisses"). A year later, at the age of 20, he was made a member of the Grand Ole Opry. He penned many hit songs for other performers, including "Keeping Up with the Joneses", "Love Is No Excuse", and "Lonesome 7-7203", a hit for Hawkshaw Hawkins.

Born on this day in in Amarillo, Texas was country singer Aaron Watson. In February 2015, Watson made history when he released The Underdog making him the first solo male artist to debut at #1 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart with a self-released and independently distributed and promoted album.

2008
The daughter of late country star Johnny Cash called the use of her father's name to endorse a US presidential candidate ‘appalling’. Country star John Rich implied Mr Cash would have backed Republican hopeful John McCain while appearing at a rally in Florida, according to media reports. Writing on her website, Roseanne Cash called the remarks ‘presumptuous’. ‘Even I would not presume to say publicly what I 'know' he thought or felt,’ she added.

2008
Singer, songwriter Will Hoge was involved in a scooter accident on after leaving a studio session for what would be his next album, The Wreckage. He was traveling north on Main Street in East Nashville when a van traveling southbound failed to yield while turning, Hoge's motor scooter collided with the passenger side of the van. He was admitted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in critical condition. Hoge has since made a full recovery.

Around the Valley…

The Twin falls Public Library will be showing a special "Eclipse" movie for this week's Friday Movie. It's a classic Disney movie that features an eclipse in its plot. The movie starts at this afternoon 1p, and all Library programs and events are free and open to the public.

The Salvation Army in Twin Falls is hosting a back to school celebration tomorrow from 10 'til 2. This a free event with free food, games, prizes, bounce house and dunk tank! The Salvation Army is at 348 4th Ave North in Twin Falls.

The Community Church of the Brethren is holding a Gospel Music Jamboree tomorrow from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at 461 Filer Ave. W., Twin Falls. There will be hot dogs, chips and drinks provided. The Blaine County Republican Central Committee is hosting a county-wide republican picnic tomorrow at the River Sage Barn in Bellevue. Congressman Mike Simpson and Lt. Governor Brad Little will both speak at the event. Cost is ten dollars per person or twenty five dollars for a family. The event will be held from noon ‘til 3pm.

The West End Senior Center will host its annual dinner & auction tomorrow from 5 'til 10pm. The dinner includes tri-tip, corn-on-the-cob, baked potato, French bread, green salad, dessert & drinks and costs $15 per plate. Beer & wine will also be available for purchase. Two big ones hitting the big screen this weekend. First, in The Hitman's Bodyguard a bodyguard played by Ryan Reynolds must protect a hitman played by Samuel L. Jackson who's about to testify against a dictator played by Gary Oldman. Salma Hayek and Elodie Yung co-star in the film. Logan Lucky also premiers tonight, and in it, brothers Jimmy and Clyde Logan, played by Channing Tatum and Adam Driver, try to reverse a family curse by setting out to execute an elaborate robbery during the legendary Coca-Cola 600 race at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Forbes’ rolled out their star-studded list of the highest-paid actresses in 2017 yesterday, and for the first time, Emma Stone landed at number one. According to the list, Stone earned 28 million dollars for her work over the past year which included the award-winning film "La La Land" for which she took home an Oscar. Jennifer Aniston landed at number two on the list, rolling in 25 and a half million over the past year, and Jennifer Lawrence took the number three spot with 24 million. Lawrence was LAST year's number one on the list.

HBO has endured yet another hack, this time of its Twitter and Facebook pages. Hackers took over the accounts on Wednesday night, sending out a message just to show they had managed to get in. These hackers are a different group than the original crew that first attacked and is still trying to devastate HBO. The social media hackers are part of a group called OurMine. They’re a collective known for general peacocking, and their previous work includes worming its way into the Twitter accounts of Netflix, Marvel, and Google. OurMine don’t appear to have leaked any HBO information, instead preferring to tweet this message: “Hi, OurMine are here, we are just testing your security, HBO team please contact us to upgrade the security."
